“Yoga experience in May”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

Wonderful experience. Beautiful accommodation and grounds, great food, friendly and helpful staff tolerated my attempts at Spanish but were fluent in English, delightful spa with experienced staff, close to many activities. And of course the yoga - with East Boca Yoga and Pilates instructor Susie Hoard!!

We spent 3 nights at the Lost Iguana for our honeymoon and wished we could have spent 30. It was so beautiful! The suite was huge with a king sized bed and modern amenities - a bar, a sitting area, even matching robes. The outdoor shower and private jacuzzi on the private patio overlooking the most amazing view of Arenal Volcano, made it really difficult to want to leave the room to do anything. But when we did, no detail was forgotten. The staff was so friendly and helped us with everything that we needed, from booking tours to immediately bringing us ice when we needed it. The hotel restaurant had great food (I loved the pico de gallo that they made fresh) and even better bird watching. There was this one hummingbird that liked to hang out right in front of our table. The drinks at the hotel bar were also delicious. We were a short 15 minute walk (or 2 minute drive) to the hanging bridges and only about a 30 minute drive to La Fortuna. If you go, be sure to book a massage at the spa, it is truly heaven on earth.

The resort is awesome and extremely peaceful, but most importantly ALL of the staff went out of their way to fulfill our requests / desires. We have traveled the world extensively, and this would rank up there as one of the best ever!
The rooms are awesome as well, and have fantastic views of the volcano. If you decide to book, I would recommend requesting a room that has both an outside shower and a jacuzzi tub. only the end units have this combo.
When you do decide to go, make sure you ask Edgier or Cesar to bring you some fresh fried plantains at breakfast!

Room Tip: End units on the first floor have both the outside showers and the jacuzzi. Other than that, all of...

We stayed at the resort for 3 nights. This was one of the most amazing places we have stayed at. Tucked away in the rainforest looking directly at the Arenal Volcano from our balcony. Wow Just the loaction it self was so gorgeous. Every morning we would watch the hummingbirds fly around to the flowers from our bacony.
There is lots of walking to get from one location of the resort but they have made beautiful walkways between the trees and flowers so its like you are in your own world.
Luis was the bartender -/ waiter we loved him :) his commitment to his job and the guests was perfect. We enjoyed sitting in the swimup pool chatting and drinking every afternoon for happy hour. Luis really made the experience wonderful.

Room Tip: All the rooms are amazing but be sure to book one that has the hottub on the balcony if you dont l...

Location: The La Fortuna/Arenal area is a beautiful, lush region of CR and the Lost Iguana is set in the perfect spot. Not as close to the Volcano as other hotels, but this puts you instead further into the rainforest near some great vistas and hiking trails. And don't get me wrong, you're still plenty close to the Volcano; the view from my balcony was AMAZING. Do be prepared to do some walking as it is a hilly, open air, campus-like set up, however they do make golf cart rides available upon request.

Rooms: About 8 spacious and airy rooms per 2-story building, quiet, private--even on the balconies though voices do carry (I was often sitting outside in my undies!). Remote controlled A/C and a ceiling fan. In keeping with the country's eco-friendly attitude, the resort encourages recycling and limited energy use (turn off your lights when you leave!). Spacious bathroom with large walk-in shower, and corner suites have a jacuzzi on the balcony! Outdated bedding but I hear they're phasing in new decor soon. Rooms were clean enough, although the shower head could have used a good vinegar soak. Mini-fridge (and bar) but no microwave. Pass on the in-room coffee maker and instead get delicious "cafe" brewed right at your table in the restaurant.

Food: A filling free daily breakfast buffet notable for fluffy omelets made to order, gallo pinto--a rice and beans staple that I could eat every day--with tasty pico de gallo, and freshly pressed juices. The Blue Hibiscus restaurant is your only option for lunch and dinner unless you want to go off the resort (at least a 15 minute drive to anything close). Food was slightly overpriced and nothing to write home (or Trip Advisor) about.

Amenties: Gym and sauna available on site for unlimited use. Also a medium sized pool with a swim up bar above. Decent happy hour each afternoon (limited menu, 2-for-1 deal). Going in October (rainy season) was beneficial as there were no crowds, but I imagine this area being a little overstuffed during peak vacation times. Free local calls (country-wide) from your in-room phone, spotty free Wifi. They have a computer available for guest use in the reception area, but it doesn't print and they had no fax (which made for some problem-solving when booking excursions). But the staff is great and are more than happy to help you book activities (some even with discounts)

Overall a quite decent place that I would be happy to return to.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms have the best views!

We spend six blissful days at the Lost Iguana. Had a great view of the volcano from our balcony. The staff was very pleasant. Our housekeeper entertained us with a new towel art left on our bed every day. We spent most of our time relaxing on the property, getting massages, reading, the pool etc. I have posted pictures at photoshah.com - check the Lost Iguana gallery.

My husband and I just returned from a four night stay at Lost Iguana. We loved it! The staff was so friendly and helpful; every single one of them. We felt as if we were in the midst of the beautiful lush landscape when sitting on our back porch. We booked activities (there is SO much to do) thru the front desk and everything went just fine without a hitch. This was our first trip but we will be back....
