“In the Rain Forest, big property and away from trafic noise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2012

I think my next trip will be my 10th, and I'll stay at the Lost Iguana. It's on a very large piece of ground, not by the road or the noisy place next door, and it still close to everything.

The hiking trails rival the ones in the Hanging Bridges and you can even walk to it if you want more bridges.

I recorded the volcano at night with the sounds of the night, my favorite long video.

LOVE the LOST IGUANA

“An incredible nature sanctuary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2012

Just returned from five heavenly nights at this very special place... it is a little off the beaten track, so it is best if you either have a car, hire a driver, or plan to do tours daily, as they pick you up and drop you off. This is a little slice of heaven, especially if you are into the sounds of nature, and the absolutely awe-inspiring volcano views, which every room has. Do yourself a favor and spring for the extra $20 a night for an outdoor Jacuzzi on the top floor.

When the hotel offers Groupon specials, be sure to take advantage of them for they are a great deal.

The staff was extremely warm and inviting, and Priscilla especially was awesome! She recommended exactly the perfect activities for us, including a rather local eco zoo tour, which was probably one of the highlights, if you are into learning about a lot of the frogs, snakes in the area. The red eyed frog was absolutely incredible, and we were allowed to let it crawl all over us if we wanted. I also highly recommend the float trip if you want to see a lot of animals.

The only downsides were that the first room was rather musty, so we switched rooms. It might be a good idea for the staff to run the air conditioning the day someone is due to check-in to eliminate any musty smells. The food in the restaurant was decent, and the breakfast included and fairly substantial. The chicken poblano soup was the best thing we had... do yourself a favor and grab some of the fresh fruit and breads from breakfast for an afternoon snack, especially if you don't have transportation.

Otherwise, this is a magical place created with a great vision... and I cannot wait to go back again.

“Garden of Eden”

We just returned from our stay and cant say enough about the beauty, uniqueness and friendly service at the Lost Iguana! We would definitely go again and would highly recommend it to others! The Lodge is nestled in the hills, surrounded by beautiful flowers and tropical greenery and the view is spectacular! Every room has a porch with a direct view of the volcano! the rooms are large, comfortable and clean. You will not be sorry if you book your stay! Enjoy!

“A great place to get away from it all...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

We visited in November 2011 and stayed for 3-4 days - our room was a luxury suite with volcano view and the fact that it rained non stop for days and we didn't actually see the volcano at all in our entire time there wasn't really a problem as the room was gorgeous - huge, super king sized bed, with outdoor jacuzzi and shower with the private veranda with rocking chairs. It did feel fairly private except our room (no. 1 I think) was right next to the car park so you could hear people coming and going on the other side of the wall.

The resort is built on a hill and it was a short walk down past the mimosa trees, butterflies and general wildlife down to the restaurant - where breakfast was served buffet style - it was ok but for a high end hotel that wasn't too busy it would have been nice to have a menu and food served to the table. Still the staff were always so friendly and attentive where ever we went.

The poolside bar was usually warm and happy hour was a great place to meet fellow hotel guests over a cocktail or two (everyone was so friendly) and compare adventure stories.
If you have time check out the spa it is very zen and I would have hung out here more if I'd had time. the complimentary facial was very relaxing.

Dinner at the restaurant was ok - nothing too great but at least it saved us from having to drive back in to La Fortuna at night.

The walking paths at the top of the resort were interesting - a little bit indiana jones at times leaping up and down the hill in to mud pits and crossing rickety old bridges - but it was very picturesque and if you can stnad the creepy crawlies and mozzies and ant armies then I would definitely recommend it! We were there in rainy season so perhaps when its drier its a little less challenging.

The resort is also a short walk uphill to the hanging bridges - which is very convenient.

One thing to note is that Lost Iguana is about a 15 -20 minutes drive in to La Fortuna (you definitely need a car) but if you are doing activities in the day it's not a problem as you will be driving around anyway or being picked up from the resort. If you want to get away from the crowds then this is for you, we came here after 2 nights at Silencio Del Campo so we had the best of both worlds.

Overall it was a great place to end our trip in CR and we would recommend it (but beware that in rainy season it can rain non stop which was a bit of a downer but being from London we are used to it)

Room Tip: Not No. 1 next to the car park! try for an upstairs suite if possible for more privacy.

“Beautiful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2012

I really enjoyed my stay at the Lost Iguana in March 2010. The staff was friendly and the rooms were very clean. It was so amazing to wake up in the morning and see the volcano from my bed. The grounds were very nice with lots of birds. I saw toucans hanging out in the trees on several occasions. It is very convenient for visiting the hanging bridges. At the time, the Lost Iguana was one of the few hotels with a view of the active side of the volcano. I would definitely stay here again.
