“Lost Iguana, WOW!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2012

This was our first trip to the rainforest/ Arenal area and wow, just the best ever!! Everyone was so nice and helpful. And the lush setting is amazing- flowers and birds are everywhere and our room had a perfect view of the volcano. We even had a hot tub on our private balcony, a rock garden shower and a beautiful canopy bed with a hand dyed bedspread- we felt like royalty! The waiters even remembered our names. Loved the restaurant, the food was excellent, and their staff catered to our meatless diet!. The breakfast buffet is incredible and it's free. Extra bonus is we got to see a pair of toucans fly in and eat the fresh fruit they set out on a bird feeder right outside the restaurant so everyone loved this photo opportunity and was sharing their pictures. We enjoyed swimming in the heated pool and the reception was very helpful in planning a trip to the hanging bridges, a tour with a naturalist guide and a Safari river boat trip- all excellent. Can't even describe the exotic sights and sounds of this place but I highly recommend this experience to anyone- you won't be disappointed!

Having read very good reviews of this hotel, we were looking forward to an enjoyable 3 night stay and are pleased to say that our expectations were more than met.
The rooms and view from our balcony were unsurpassable as the gardens were beautiful and we had pleasure watching humming birds visiting various flowers outside our room. Staff were always helpful and friendly and we enjoyed riding on the golf buggies back to our room after dinner!
Food was excellent in the evening and not too expensive and breakfast was a delight watching beautiful birds eating in front of us at the same time. On our last morning two toucans arrived on the feeding trays amid great excitement.
The hibiscus maze is well worth a visit and the pools are good, particularly the top pool which is heated and leads to the swim-up bar

Greatest getaway I ever had... doesn't get any better than this , beautiful rooms with over the top atrium showers, volcano view from every room ... easy trail to Hanging Bridges , and the staff / service is great !!!... I didn't want to leave ( especially after getting massage in spa ) ... sigh ... I WANNA GO BACK

Room Tip: All rooms appear to have great view of volcano

We stayed here for five nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a celebrity suite which was incredibly spacious. The property is about a 15-20 minute ride from La Fortuna as it is situated near the lake but we are very glad we stayed here because of the things we saw. There are two walks on the property which are decent work-outs; one is not for the faint-hearted "Cascadas" and you should definitely walk with a guide as there was a serious amount of leaf cover on the trail which is great camouflage for snakes. We scared a poor anteater who came barreling out of the undergrowth right in front of us. I let out a yell as it was so unexpected and he took off down the bank. if you go early enough to breakfast (before 7 30am) you can catch the toucans feeding. We got some great footage of one eating a banana. We also saw black guans and some other colorful birds. The breakfast was good and the staff really helpful. You need transport if you stay here as most of the better restaurants are in La Fortuna.

Room Tip: We really enjoyed the suite we had in the celebrity block at the top of the property. I have no idea...

We would like to thank all the staff at Lost Iguana for a great 4 night stay here in February 2012. In particular, although it is difficult to pick individuals, I would thank Isobel, Luis and Robin for their attentive service, but the others were all great too. While the location is fantastic and beautiful they quality and attentivness of the staff really make or break a place for us. THe staff here were the best we encountered in 4 hotels acoss the country.

We are a family of 6, with 4 kids aged 11, 9, 6 and 1. We were looked after very well. Nothing was too much trouble. Kids meals were made to order and excellent. They even threw an impromptu birthday party for our one year old the evening we left, complete with cake, baloons and presents for all the kids. We felt very welcome in a place that wasnt particularly geared up for kids.

We loved the jungle setting. The we have all become ornithologists. The humming birds very delightful, but the highlight for most of us was the toucans which we saw several times during our stay.

We did a tour of the hanging bridges (difficult but not impossible with a stroller), a trip to Cano Negro - this was a great trip and Froyo was a super guide. We saw lots of birds and animals. Also we did the sky tram and the older boys and I did the zip lining. An excellent experience, well managed, although it was on the expensive side and it would have been better with a group size of 10 rather than 25! That said, the guides were excellent and looked dfter our boys (11 and 9) very carefully.

THe only downside for us was the lack of a car seat on our transfer back to the airport and to and from the zip tour. We had arranged the tours and transfers through the hotel so, while not entirely their fault, they might want to apply some focus here for the future. In fairness, this was an issue we encountered elswhere.

however, it was probably the highlight of our 2 week trip and we were very sorry to leave.

Many thanks once again.

This was my first trip to CR, and the staff at Lost Iguana was very helpful with suggestions for activities in the area. The hotel/spa is in a beautiful area, nestled in the rain forest. If the hilly setting is a challenge, the hotel offers golf cart rides to and from the various buildings. The rooms are spotless. Our room was spacious with an open-air jacuzzi, and rocking chairs on the deck. After a day of adventuring (zip-lining, white water rafting, or canyoning) I recommend a massage at the Golden Gecko Spa. The full breakfast buffet is filling, and often there are forest birds coming to the feeding platforms for their breakfast too. They put on quite a show! I hope this will not be my last trip to Lost Iguana.

I just got back from a fabulous five day stay at the Lost Iguana. My
husband and I are seniors and we were concerned about the hotel being
built on a hillside. We quickly learned that no concern was necessary
since they provide a club car which looks like a large golf cart whenever
you need one. We found the walk to the restaurant was a perfect way to
get our exercise since it was a brick trail that zigzagged down to the
restaurant and there were no steps so we enjoyed just walking to all our
meals. If we had a late dinner and it was dark, then we preferred calling
a club car. Our room was incredible with a breathtaking view of the
volcano and we had perfect weather. Our room was very large with
beautiful wood furniture, hand dyed bedspread with a beautiful canopy
that had fresh flowers every day and beautiful french doors that opened
to the lush rainforest and volcano view and we even had a jacuzzi on our
private balcony. We loved watching the hummingbirds and other birds from
our balcony and we would read every day sitting in the most comfortable
leather rocking chairs. I loved the green tea and willow soaps and
shampoos and our rock garden shower with flowers growing up the rocks!
We did some nice guided tours with a naturalist which was perfect and
even had a fun safari raft ride down the river. I loved all the meals we
had at the restaurant and the staff was so friendly and helpful. And two
mornings we saw some toucans as they came flying down to feed on some
fruit right outside the restaurant- a perfect memory to a perfect
vacation. I would encourage anyone to visit this piece of paradise no
matter what age you are!
