“Wonderful place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2014 via mobile

We stayed here for 3 nights while in the area. They were so welcoming, accommodating and tried very hard to make our stay comfortable. The cabins were exceptionally clean which I think is important and very well maintained. We had the breakfast every morning and it was a great typical breakfast. It's also within walking distance to town and they can book your excursions for you as well. We will definitely stay there if we go back. It was a great experience to stay with a local family as well. Our Spanish is not very good but there son helped us communicate with them which was very helpful. Thank-you for a wonderful experience!

First, this was my wife and I's first trip to Costa Rica. We booked a tour through Hotel Pasatiempo's website. We only had a week and this tour was ideal for seeing different areas of costa rica and was very affordable. Our first place to stay was at Selvita Lodge in La Fortuna. It was the perfect setting.
Description:
Selvita Lodge is best described as a bed and breakfast. There are four beautiful, quiet cabins on the property for guests. There are two queen size beds in the cabins and a large spacious bathroom. The interior is beautiful and furnished with a television, mini refrigerator, AC, and internet. The beds were comfortable. The hosts were very gracious and accommodating. It is family owned/operated and they all came to welcome our arrival. They took our dinner order and were able to make recommendations for best dishes (dinner meal was delivered from local restaurant). They made us a table for dinner on the front porch of our cabin. We could view the mountains in the distance and watch the brief showers blow in. Breakfast was made to request by our host and was served in the main house. We really enjoyed our breakfast and getting to know our hosts. They went out of their way to help us with all our inquiries.

Selvita Lodge is a charming, quaint, and lovely property with even lovelier people! My girlfriends and I were here for two nights and stayed in a clean, good sized bungalow with a large bathroom. There was an AC unit in the room, a huge shower with warm water, and comfortable beds. The owners (a Tico family) of the lodge were extremely friendly people, and while they spoke little English, they went the extra mile for us. A couple of times, the husband, Adrian, drove us into town (La Fortuna was only about 1 - 2 km away) instead of having us take a taxi. One particular night, my girlfriends and I went to explore the night life in La Fortuna, and we didn't get home til about 3 am. When we walked up to our room, we noticed someone sleeping on the bench right by our door. We got scared for a second until we realized it was Adrian, the owner! He wanted to make sure we got back safely, so he decided to wait for us and slept on the bench. We thought that was the sweetest thing! Breakfast is served in the main house, which is cooked and prepared by his wife. She, too, was the sweetest thing, and in spite of the language barrier, she continued to try and communicate with us as much as possible. Each morning, she prepared us a typical Tico breakfast with eggs, gallo pinto, cheese, fruit, and coffee. It was delicious! It really felt like we were apart of their family, not just guests. They gave us a good glimpse of what Costa Rican culture is all about. I would recommend Selvita Lodge a hundred times over!!!

My younger sister and I absolutely loved the cabaña styled rooms - so unique, quaint and pretty. It felt like we were staying in a jungle hut. The bathroom/shower/beds/everything was very clean and there was great AC and internet. The couple that owned the lodges were so sweet - we instantly fell in love with them and their cute dogs, and were sad to say goodbye. Even though our Spanish was limited, the owners were so hospitable to make sure we were well fed, comfortable, on time for our tours and taken care of. Because my sister and I were both girls, the couple made sure we got in safely before turning in for bed. Loved it here - loved loved loved it.
