“Rainy Season Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Beautiful grounds and the most fantastic view from our own private porch. We only had rain during the night so we really enjoyed visiting the sites with no crowds.Enjoyed the drink specials and the complimentary breakfast .Very comfy bed, in a clean room with a great shower. Staff very helpful and quickly responded to requests.I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Our room was on the backside of the hotel facing a small river and the volcano. There are many buildi...

Not a lot to complain about considering I am in Costa Rica but if I had another choice I would definitely try another resort. The staff is unequaled but the facilities are lacking. The toilet in the room would not operate properly even after "a repair". All of the nicer resorts have a fantastic view and this one is no exception. The restaurant had a total of 6 people at the same time- we were in the off-season, but the other resorts we visited during our trip were packed so there must be a reason. The resort also did not have hot springs which is also an attraction.

I also did not like the fact I had to wear a waterproof paper bracelet the whole trip. Not necessary.

Thank you very much for your comments.

Our main objective is to obtain feedback from them.

We regret the inconveniences that you might live, in your stay with us.

Regarding our restaurant, is designed to serve hotel guests, so you probably could perceive fewer people. Considering that we are in low season.

As can be seen in all our advertising, we have two pool areas, one with cold water and one with heated water.

We appreciate your time, and we will consider your feedback to improve our product and our service.

Kind Regards!

This hotel has large, clean comfortable rooms opening onto tropical gardens. They promote the rooms as all having a view directly onto the volcano and mine certainly did - very convenient for relaxing in comfort while the volcano disappeared and re-emerged from the cloud.

The staff at reception were very helpful. When I wanted to do a specific day trip they called four different operators to find one that was running the tour on the day I wanted.

The maids also did a great job - my towel was folded into spectacular shapes including an elephant complete with real orchids behind its ears!

The restaurant is also good (there was a buffet on the days I was there with fruit, traditional Costa Rican breakfast e.g. rice and beans) and european breakfast items like toast. There are two pools as well although I didn't have time for swimming.

I would have liked to spend another night at this hotel just to enjoy the facilities there.

My only disappointment was that the volcano stopped doing pyrotechnics about two years ago, so now there is just steam coming from the summit rather than the lava show at night.

A few tips:
- As well as the more well-known attractions in the area (volcano, thermal spa) I would recommend a day trip to Rio Celeste. Two rivers (both clear) come together and when the minerals combine the water becomes bright blue. It was one of the highlights of my trip.
- Many of the activities at Arenal and Monte Verde are similar e.g. hanging bridges, zipline, horse-riding. The ones at Monte Verde seemed less expensive (e.g. $50 at Arenal vs $30 - 40 at Monte Verde), I think both areas are worth visiting but it would be useful to plan which activities to do in each place to get the best value.

The stunning views and hotel landscaping providing an unforgettable experience.
Our grandkids received a great introduction to the natural beauty of Costa Rica with abundant wildlife visible throughout the gardens.
The restaurant were excellent with a great buffet breakfast. Lunch was authentic and the cost was very reasonable (including the 2 for 1 beer special).
The pool was great for the kids.
The staff was very accomodaing.
No complaints or shortfalls - and the price was great.

Room Tip: It doesn't matter - all rooms have views and are well situated on the grounds.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Volcano Lodge & Gardens. The room & views were wonderful, the food & service were excellent and we hated to leave! We would recommend this hotel to any of our friends and would love to come back for another stay. The amenities were nice in our room and it was kept very clean and welcoming with cute animal towel arrangements.

Check in was fast and efficient, the grounds are gorgeous, the room spacious, with a lovely sitting area outside, and a view of the volcano. One complaint, the breakfast was just so-so. Pool and hot tub area is nice. Handy to area attractions.

Everyone says the right things, but I wanted to call particular attention to the gardens - its not just the Volcano Lodge... its the Volcano Lodge and Gardens! They are spectacular. If you get up early for a tour or the like, you will see hundreds of birds - especially hummingbirds - plus countless varieties of blooming plants. Most rooms (like ours') have spectacular views of the Volcano (which was venting near the top when we visited) and we saw it many times unobstructed despite it being part of the rainy season. The restaurant is very good - we had a terrific dinner there and our breakfasts. Also, when our tour arrived too early to sit-down and have breakfast, the staff offered to bag a breakfast for us (fruit and hot sandwiches) gratis. Very nice. Front desk staff is super nice too. Cannot believe we got rooms for $50/nt including taxes and breakfast for two - ridiculously good deal. PURA VIDA!
