“Beautiful Hideaway by the Volcano Arenal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

This hotel and spa is spectacular! The view of the volcano is amazing from any part of this property! Our room was amazing on the second floor with three spacious beds and an awesome bathroom. We had the view of the volcano and the beautiful backyard with tropical plants. The three natural hot springs on property were perfect for after a busy day of exploring the Arenal Waterfalls and the White water rafting. The three hot spring pools had different temperatures. Breakfast was a buffet that was delicious too, with natural juices fresh fruits.

This hotel is a hidden gem! Although it isn't super fancy, it had all the amenities of the higher priced hotels. They had beautiful spring fed thermal pools, volcano mud bath station, and a regular pool. The view of the volcano when it is clear is perfect! Breakfast in the morning was fine as well, had to get used to the leaf cutter ants along the floor, but there are so many in this part of Costa Rica I can't imagine not seeing them on a visit now! The pools are definitely spring fed but I believe they are heated with propane rather than from the volcano, but still lovely. My kids had a great time with the mud bath and the three different temperature thermal pools. We had a little cabin to sleep in which was a little musty but dried out nice when we turned the ac on for a bit. Felt like fancy camping! Nice little walking path right on site as well. Just outside of downtown La Fortuna, which is a wonderful little town, We felt very safe walking around with our 2 young girls. There is a beautiful grass square and church right in the center of town, great little sodas to each at and a supermarket. Drive into town and then walk all around. La Fortuna was definitely my favorite stop in CR.

My husband and I were in Costa Rica for a soccer match in San Jose and the day after the match traveled to La Fortuna for an overnight getaway. Each room is a separate bungalow and ours had a fantastic view of the Arenal Volcano from our front porch. The service was fantastic, the food was phenomenal, and the entire atmosphere was very welcoming and relaxing. We enjoyed a couples massage at the El Gadi Spa at the resort and it was one of the best massages I've ever had. It was my husband's first massage ever and he was loving it. The do-it-yourself volcanic mud treatment was a plus as was relaxing in the hot springs. Overall I would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Standard room was great. We didn't see any others so can't really compare.

We spent 4 nights at Montana de Fuego and had a great time there
Location is great, with a view from our bungalow straight to the Arenal volcano, and a mini-lake just around the bungalow. All day long, you have hummingbirds flying around, this is just amazing
Bungalow was very spacious, quiet, and even included a spa!
Having access hot springs within the hotel is a great plus
Restaurant offers good food and hotel also offers a broad range of nice activities (zip lines, tubbing, hikes...)
Only negative side is that food in general is a bit expensive for its quality and activities, though great fun and very professionally handled, are also quite expensive.
But overall we loved our stay there!

The cottage that we stayed in had a perfect view of the Arenal volcano. We were thrilled with our proximity. Only a short walk away was the pool, pool bar, and hot springs. They even had volcanic mud and a wide paint brush so you can skip the spa treatment and do it yourself. I was black from head to toe until it dried about 15 minutes later, then I was grey.
The pool was cool and the hot springs were hot like a whirlpool tub.
Breakfast was a huge Spanish buffet. Really good.
We did the river tubing and highly recommend it. It was a hike through the jungle past a waterfall. When we got to the river we shot a number of rapids and saw a number of waterfalls. Then we returned to the ranch across the street from our resort via horseback. I loved this excursion!

Room Tip: The bungalows are like cottages not posh rooms, they have a bedroom, bathroom and porch.

We booked a 3 night trip using a Living Social deal that was overpriced (and discounted!!!??) for what we received. It was supposed to be a Superior Bungalow Room and we both believe that Motel 6 has better rooms! There was nothing about the room that was superior and in fact was less than standard, sub-standard in reality. When we checked in, we were told someone would come to show us the room; no one came for more than 10 minutes (and we were supposed to also receive a welcome drink -- THIS would have been a great time to give us this drink and we NEVER got it/them). When I complained to the manager on the first morning, we were "upgraded" to a junior suite which I would describe as standard+/possibly superior, Again, even though I pointed out the discrepancies, NO welcome drink/ in the end. I gave up complaining and trying to get the welcome drink after telling someone for the third time.... I am not sure I have ever been treated so horribly and with less respect.

Room Tip: I would never go back to this place... ever!!
