“Friendly staff, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

We stayed three nights at the Las Colinas, the staff at this family run hotel were very friendly. Our room had two double beds, AC, a small fridge and shower room with a toilet. We also had a small balcony. Rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels laid out on the bed. The rooms were basic but comfortable. We also booked a number of tours through the receptionist which was easy to do and the prices and pick up times were very clear. We had a small problem on our final morning when the reception didn't open as early as we thought it did meaning we held up our transfer but this didn't cause too many problems. I'd recommend it as an affordable option in La Fortuna.

“Good value: low price + good quality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

We stayed here for one evening. We are budget conscious, but have high expectations about quality. The receptionist/clerk was very friendly and helpful, and spoke perfect English. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was good - eggs, fresh tortillas, plantains, fresh fruit, juice, and coffee. The location was fine - near the town square and restaurants. The price was outstanding. We will stay again if we visit La Fortuna.

“Great Staff, nice location :)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

The hotel is in the very center of the town. You have a view to the volcano :)

Our roome had 2 beds, a fridge, AC , TV, very clean. For breakfast you can have: tea, coffe, bread with different jams (i recomend you the guava one), scramble eggs, rice with beans, fried banana, fresh fruit (watermelon, papaya, pineapple and melon). The very chef takes care of you, sometimes there are pancakes made on the moment.

The staff is like incredible friendly, when we arrived the say hello to Alvaro, and we shaked hands XD, i feel like arriving to a friend's house.

We took some tours, , we booked everything through the hotel, and some tours were a couple of dollars cheaper than the ones on the internet.

There is a supermarket nearby, little nice restaurant. Perhaps a little noise because there were some local festivities in the main square...just around the corner, but we slept well.

“very noisy; overall ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

The hotel is a family hotel in business for 22 years. The stuff are friendly, but just not super. When we ask them about the local attractions, they simply answer the question, while other hotels we stayed in, the owners are generally very nice and recommend a lot more than what we asked for.

The major problem for me with this hotel is the noisiness, which I'm pretty sure >50% of people stayed there will feel the same way. They first place us in a room facing the street, and the first night I was almost crazy, because la fortuna downtown is very noisy with lots of cars/trucks passing as well as people screaming, till at least 11:30pm. After that, less screaming but the noise from cars/trucks last all night.
This is not just our feeling, because the next day during breakfast, I heard several others complain about the same thing.

In the later 2 nights, we changed another room that's farther from the street. It's much tolerable (but not super), and thank god.

To be fair, I don't think the hotel is not good, and the problem we have is mostly towards la fortuna city, instead of the hotel itself. So I would recommend some hotels a little further from downtown area, especially if you have a car. Otherwise, try to make sure you get a room that's a little farther from the street-----very important!!!!

Another thing is that the hotel owners are not there late in the night or before 7am in the morning. If you need anything during that time, there's no way.

Room Tip: room 21 facing the street is very bad; room 27 we changed later is much better. I heard that room 33...

“Fantastic location, great hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012 via mobile

We were greeted by Evette immediately and she made us feel at home right away. The hotel is in a great location being right in town and is surrounded by restaurants, shops, supermarkets. Our room was on the terrace. It was a simple large room, with a fridge, tv and basic necessities. There are floor to ceiling windows that overlook the terrace which is a bit of an issue if you want some privacy. There are curtains to mediate this but the curtains do not block out much light and so for light sleepers, the sun might wake you up early. Being right in town, you do get a bit of noise but most of it is gone by 10pm or so and you can get a good night sleep.Good costa rican breakfast in the morning.

Make sure you try Soda Viquez for their yummy, well priced large casados, Rainforest Coffee Cafe for their casado/shakes special and the juice/smoothie shop. These three are all located across the street from the hotel. As you can tell, we had no problem finding food.

Overall good family hotel with great location. They can organize tours and rides to monteverde for you too.
