“Next time I would stay longer!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

I just cannot say enough good things about this property. I felt like I was in another world and sometimes felt like I was in a King Kong Movie! This place is absolutely amazing! We stayed at the Lomas del Volcán which has individual wood cabins in a rustic style setting located in Arenal, Costa Rica. We arrived on July 1st 2014. I cannot tell you how nice it was to spend our 3rd and 4th nights in Costa Rica here; also my wife and I just loved the view. Also the town is just a short drive away. Our Cabin had 2 decks that allowed us to enjoy 2 scenarios, one with a view of the majestic Arenal Volcano Mountain and the other with a view to the tropical forest and the cabins across the road. This property is well maintained and reminds me of some of the views I experienced in Hawaii. The only difference is the Volcano is not a huge crater and it looks like what I picture a Volcano to look like when I was a child. We did take advantage of the crayoning the hotel had to offer. The advantage is that when we arrived by the time we settled in it was after hours. From our experience in the past most of the adventures were closed and from our past experience in Hawaii no matter how early you wake up the office for your adventure is not usually open until it is too late for you to go. So I recommend going through the hotel for this adventure. I found the staff to be very friendly and the front desk personnel to be eager to help and very concerned about our comfort during our stay. Maria provided excellent housekeeping and kept our room spotless. Which reminds me don’t forget to tip your housekeeping staff. They work hard for their money and she was great! When it comes to my review, I wish this site would let me give the property a 4.5 rating. When it comes to Properties that offer a bungalow or cabin like setting this place rocks!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the office side of the road. You will have a closer view of the Volcano. I promise...

Beautifully landscaped grounds and individual bungalows give a very natural feel to this resort. The rooms were clean and large enough for our group of three. Nice pool and jacuzzi. All you can eat breakfast was perfect to energize a day of activity. I would suggest that they install more lighting in the rooms. Hard to read with available lights in the dark wood walls. We would have liked to see the volcano but the hotel can't control the weather!

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Lomas del Volcan. We stayed in Cabin #512, which had an AMAZING view of the volcano. The grounds are beautiful and the cabins were perfect for our family of four. The bathrooms are large and the covered patio off the back of the cabin was perfect for sitting outside. The complimentary breakfast was quite good with made-to-order omelettes, pancakes, gallo pinto, fresh fruit, and fresh fruit juice. We didn't book any excursions through the hotel, as prices were much better to book directly. The only drawback that we experienced was that we made our reservation through Expedia, and it only indicated two adults were staying in the room, so we had to pay an additional $25 per night per kid. I wasn't happy with that surprise, but even with the extra $100 charge, it was a good rate.

Room Tip: We stayed in Cabin #512 and it had one of the very best views of the volcano. Several in the #500 r...

Hi!
Thank you very much for your feedback regarding your stay in our facilities. The description you make about your stay in our resort is very exact to the reality of our place.
It is very important for those who make reservations through a different web site of the hotel to check very well what the website asks for...certainly in your case, maybe you did not see the place to mark the number of children, but what is true is that sometimes we have received reservations requests for a number of people and at the moment of the check in more are coming under the same booking. The normal procedure is to make an extra charge and this way the extra people can stay in our facilities. It is very simple and clear. We normally charge extra money to cover expenses like the breakfast, towel cleaning, water and electricity...
We deeply ask to all our guests and people reading this answer to check your booking confirmation, see that everything is clear and if possible get in contact with our hotel to double check the information. Doing it this way you don't get desagradable surprises at the moment of the check in.

Warm regards and see you soon.

First time to Costa Rica. Hotel was booked through CostaRicaVacations.com [which is excellent!!]. Two sides of road. If you are on the side that the main building is on, you will have a nice view of the volcano. If not you will be hidden from its splendor. Cabins are beautiful with lovely beds and large bathroom. Awesome porch. Breakfast was included and just soso. Dried out food was usually the problem. Staff was lovely. Had dinner there but only once. That was enough.Again, dry and tasteless. Great resturant down the street though. Very clean place. Refrige in room, which was nice. Bring you hiking shoes and raingear!!!!!!

Room Tip: 310 was at the top of hill and had great view of volcano and not too long of a walk to resturant.

Hi!
Thank you so much for this feedback.
It is very good to know some details about the restaurant and specially because this area is part of our facilities and since we opened the resort we have been very proud of our cuisine. We take your comments in a very serious way and you can be sure that if something is going wrong in the kitchen or with the staff we are going to correct it.
We hope to have your visit again in the future and the next time we are sure our restaurant will surpass your expectancies.

Warm regards to you and your family.

My family stayed last week for two nights and were very impressed with the cleanliness of the bungalo's (no bugs)..and scenery. It rained heavy at night but we enjoyed that. You have a covered private patio so rain isn't a problem. We ate twice at the restaurant...I had the Sea Bass which was amazingly delicious. I wasn't impressed by the pasta although the price was priced low. The grounds reminded me of Hawaii...
We did use the jacuzzi one night in the drizzle...but the jacuzzi is covered so that was nice.
We will defnitely stay there again the next time we are in that area. Plus the location is great...20 minutes to Hanging Bridges of Arenal, 5 minutes to Fortuna...
My kids did the night frog /snake tour...and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We checked out a few other hotels...Lost Iguana and Springs...but didn't like how Springs was so many miles off the main road on a dirt road and didn't like the location of Lost Iguana...

Room Tip: concierge was very nice...almost made a mistake booking Vernado Caves tour...until another hotel gue...

This is a great hotel in Fortuna. This is one where the service was good. The food was good. The only thing is that it was a little rainy, but I guess that is expected for the location. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.

Hi.
Thank you so much for this few lines regarding your stay in our resort.
We hope to improve those things and the next time you come to stay with us and your score be rated higher. We can´t manage the nature facts so we can´t promise you we are going to do something to stop the rain.

Best wishes and until the next time.

Your friends of Lomas del Volcán.

The grounds were beautiful, the staff at the front desk were helpful, breakfast was good (they had watermelon and pineapple juice!), and even the dinner we ate at the hotel restaurant was excellent. The private cabins are well cleaned and surrounded by beautiful plants.

If only the hotel could stop the rain...

I'd highly recommend this spot!
