the rooms were comfortable and the landscaping impeccable! the breakfast was amazing! the staff was very helpful. unfortunately though, the showers had no hot water. it was a little cold in the mornings and i wanted a nice hot shower to wake up, but the water was not even warm enough to stop me from shivering. the hottest setting literally lowered my body temperature. so i decided maybe the hot tub would warm me up. unfortunately it was closed. had there been hot water and had the hot tub been accessible, i would have given this hotel 5 stars.

Had a real great time here, spacious clean rooms (giant shower), plentiful breakfast and relaxed quiet atmosphere. Lots of birds to see on the property, 3 species of toucans from our porch (some complain that they feed some birds to attract them but don't we all have bird feeders?). Reasonable rates and friendly staff. Close to La Fortuna with a variety of places to eat. Will stay there again next time we're in Arenal.

There was a Fer De Lance snake (terciopela)right outside the dining room one night so make sure u always take a light out after dark

I would recommend the hotel as a place to stay and see wildlife but drive to Fortuna for dinner
Ps the Asian looking bartender should work on his customer skills
My husband and I sat at the near empty bar for over five minutes before he even acknowledged us

The individual bungalows are situated in a very lush/tropical property that is situated at the base of the Volcano! All the vegetation is just beautiful and there all kinds of birds flying around. The restaurant is open and you can enjoy the gardens. Saw hummingbirds at breakfast every morning which our 3 year old loved. Swimming pool/jacuzzi were very nice. Breakfast buffet was fantastic, great way to start the day. Would not do dinner/lunch as it is over-priced.

We stayed in the 500s bungalow so back terrace looked onto the Volcano, just an amazing view. There were ants that came in because our 3 year old left food on the floor (don't leave food anywhere in the room!). This is Costa Rica and there will be bugs that come in.

Neilson at the front desk was super helpful and friendly! He recommended great day-trips and was understanding enough to change our 400 room to a 500 which really made our stay more enjoyable. Also, we paid extra and he adjusted the credit promptly.

The only thing I recommend is to have a rental while staying here because it is $6 cab fare to get into town (each way). So renting a car makes sense because there is so much to do within a 30 min driving distance.

Lots of things to do- waterfalls, Tabacon Hot Springs day trip (a must), Proyecto Asis (animal refuge), zip-lining.

Keep in mind it does rain here a lot which no one mentioned. It rained 2 out of the 3 days we stayed and we only saw the Volcano on the last day. So bring bug repellant and ponchos or at least check weather forecast prior to arrival as it is considered a Rain forest region.
