Top notch service from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. Food was way above average, and had one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. Had a large flat screen tv, with plenty of cable channels to choose from. The hotel staff does everything they can to satisfy their guests. Constant upgrades, such as new paint in all the cabins had been recently completed. Hotel sits a bit off the road and is unpaved for the 1st stretch. They are working on this too, but it is slow work. Only negative was almost lack of internet connection. Can barely get a connection even in the main lobby. Really this didn't matter, as everything else kept me busy.. To town it is approximately 3(000) colones, or about $6 each way.. If you don't rent a car, this is by far one of the best hotels to stay as getting to and from town is quick, and doesn't break the bank each way, plus it is far enough removed from town to be able to enjoy the volcano without a lot of tourist traffic. Fabulous stay!

Great stay here! The grounds and landscaping are gorgeous. I really enjoyed eating meals in the open-air restaurant. The room was spacious and very clean. Good location, close to hanging bridges and hot springs.

I can't even begin to express how fantastic our 3-night stay was at Lomos del Volcan. The grounds were well kept, the rooms were clean, the staff was friendly and helpful. We booked a couple excursions, and the hotel supports outstanding companies for those activities. The pictures on their website don't do justice to the beauty of the area. The food was good, and offered a nice variety. The individual cabins were beautifully decorated and supported the feel of privacy and luxury. We were sorry when we left because no place we stayed after compared. We are already planning a trip back to Costa Rica, and know we will return to Lomos del Volcan because the experience was so great. Can't imagine staying anywhere else!

We stayed here through a tour package through Costa Rica. This lodge is located at the base surrounding the Arenal Volcano and offers great views of the volcano (providing that the clouds are not covering it). It is a get-away from the busy city life.The wooden cabins are raised on stilts to prevent the rainwater from seeping inside. The cabins are individually arranged; therefore, none of the cabins are stuck next door to each other. Each cabin has its own front porch with a bench and a rear porch that has a table and chairs with a wonderful view of the Arenal Volcano. Despite not having an opportunity to fully view the Arenal Volcano during my 2 day stay there, it was still an enjoyable visit to see the volcano surrounded by the famous clouds. The sunset was nice also. This lodge does not have any doors and you can practically drive right up to the Registration Desk. It is a bit walk up to the wooden cabins since they are arranged on a hillside individually but it is not that bad. The bellmen are ready for your arrival and promptly deliver your luggage to your cabin. The same service during your departure day.
The restaurant located in the premises serve a wide array of nice food buffet style. There was always a selection of meat dishes, salads (your own choice of ingredients) and at night there was a fresh pasta grill with your choice of ingredients. Plenty of drinks to select from as well as desserts. Meal times are assigned. Since there is no daylight savings time in Costa Rica, make sure you have a flashlight to carry while walking from your cabin to the Dining Room as it is downhill and uphill back. There are lights around, but for your own convenience it is recommended to have your own flashlight (at least during August when I was there).

The wooden cabins are huge with plenty of walking space between two double beds. The views from the cabins were wonderful. The bathroom shower was so big and roomy, it could fit 10 people in there! The bathroom was almost 1/2 the size of the cabin room itself!

Lomas del Volcan is a great place to relax. The swimming pool is set in a wonderful location with the Arenal Volcano in the background. Saw a male and female Great Currasaw walking around the outside of the Dining Room during breakfast time. A rare sighting! There are two computers at the Registration area but one of them did not work too well. There is internet service but slow. What can you expect at a lodge located in the outskirts of town next to an active volcano?

Lots of beautiful purple and red bourganvillea and orange ginger flowers surrounding each wooden cabin. The Front Desk staff are very helpful and assisted me in Spanish with a local call to confirm an excursion pick-up from the lodge. Great get-away for anyone who is interested to enjoy the outdoors at it's best. Definitely a slower life style than San Jose, Costa Rica.
