“Luxury with Ambience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

We loved staying here. Amazing views. Away from the very touristy La Fortuna. You need to take shuttles from the facilities to your room. Plan ahead or you do a lot of walking. Tours set up by the Lodge are pricey and not the best places to visit. Venture out with others (Sky Trek, Pure Trek, Wave Expeditions...). They will pick you up with no hassles. Wifi in rooms would be nice. Despite this, highly recommend.

Room Tip: Close to the lobby means no shuttles and quick to pools, hot springs and restaurant.

Went to CR at the end of February the resort is a 4 star staff are very helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean, the resort was a pleasant surprise. Hot springs were awesome hit them every night after a day of zipling and sightseeing. Great time.

Room Tip: Tip the cleaning staff

I would echo all of the outstanding things people have said about this place with one caveat: evening staff does not speak and understand English. I could not receive the answers to my questions by phone after 22-00 (I lived very far from reception). Besides, there wasn't wi-fi in the rooms and even possibility to get adapters (110V). But here you do not want to have a rest in the room. Paradise outside is waiting for you!! Just R-E-L-A-X!!!

Our family of five (including 12, 10, 7 year olds) stayed here for three nights in December. It is a few km out of the town proper but we had a car and/or our tour operators picked us up. The highlights:

Room: Clean and spacious but by no means opulent or even the slightest bit upscale. Very functional. Two queen beds (I think) with trundle beds under were perfect for the five of us. A few ants but nothing we couldn't deal with. Our room was a gazillion miles from the pool complex which was a bummer but there is a shuttle and we survived.

Restaurant: breakfast was nice...some interesting items on the buffet. We had a quick lunch at main restaurant. Service was good. Ate a couple meals at pool bar/cafe. They actually put ham on their hamburger...what I get for ordering a hamburger in Costa Rica.

Pool complex: this is what we loved. After long days exploring the region or active tours, we spent hours in the warm pools. Kids loved the slides. We spent on rainy afternoon in the warm pools oblivious to the rain.

Grounds: neat nature trail. We didn't do zip line here.

Staff: great. Unlike other reviewers we didn't feel harassed by tour folks in lobby. In fact they were very helpful.

Would definitely stay here again.

My school group stopped at this hotel for 2 nights on our tour with Grand Classroom of Costa Rica. Of all the hotels, it was my favorite, mostly because of the pools and slides. The hotel has a family friendly environment. There are two normal temperature pools, one big hot pool, and five small hot springs. I had some issues with the room key working and it was a very long walk back to the lobby in the rain to get a new key. However, while walking back to our room from the lobby, we saw a huge bullfrog and an armadillo. This made up for the walking. Also, there are nice views from the rooms on the upper part of resort. Early in the morning you can see the top of the volcano, before it disappears into the clouds for the rest of the day. All in all, Los Lagos is a great place for families and couples.

Room Tip: Try and pick a room close to the lobby and pool because it is a long walk and it takes a while for a...

This was one of the nicest hotels we stayed in Costa Rica, beautiful tropical grounds with much to do and see. Crocs, birds, butterflies, horses..The rooms are quite large and most have great views of Arenal Volcano. The hots springs was clean and did not have a sulphur smell like some hot springs. Swim up bar, hot spring slide, z-lines, amazing place. The pool area is a bit noisy with kids playing other than that I would recommend for sure. Also, the food was basic and decent in the restaurant. We decided to eat at other places after a couple of meals. However, we like really great food. Drinks are expensive at all the resorts in Costa Rica..

We bought a day pass for $15 (great value in comparison) and did a hike before sitting down for lunch. The hike was not well marked and up hill the whole way, worth the view at the end however they could warn you a bit.
The restaurant is excellent (try avocado stuffed with shrimp) service is good as always.
The hot spring pools were cool, 3 slides and a swim up bar. Would have liked a few more hot pools but I was relaxed when we left and that was worth every penny!
