“Amazing place”

This is the perfect hot springs hotel to stay at if looking for something nice and reasonably priced. Many of the hot springs hotels in the area are quite expensive, and Los Lagos is fairly priced with a beautiful resort feel. The room was basic, but exactly what we needed. The shower was luke warm - not hot, and the wi fi does not work in the room. The grounds have a small "zoo" with crocodiles, iguanas and butterfly conservatory. I traveled with two other friends - all in our twenties - and we loved it. The hot springs were amazing. One had a wet bar, and this same bar had delicious food for lunch or dinner and good drinks. The hotel has one restaurant, which was also good and had a large breakfast buffet.

This town can be a lot of fun! There's hot spring pools minutes from your room and beautiful gardens, horses, butterfly garden etc. The property is just amazing. The rooms are a little small, standard. Room 143 the bathroom window doesn't shut all the way so we had a few dozen flying creatures visit us but we are from FL so not a big deal for us. The breakfast was great and front desk staff pleasant. A few things could use improvement. The prices at the bar were so high that even someone like me who splurges on vacation would rather go downtown 5 minutes than to hang out there. The spa was the same, it's less expensive for me to get a massage here in Naples, FL than there, and yes all US prices. The wrist bands they want you to wear to get in the property and to breakfast etc are a beacon to the locals of where you are staying and makes it awkward as you are judged by it. We took ours off in town, they should do away with those it's not entry to the fair! Other than that we had a great stay.

We just returned from a retreat at Los Lagos in la Fortuna. It was a lovely experience and enjoyed by all. The food buffet, the rooms and the grounds were all beautiful. The staff were friendly, helpful and available. Unfortunately one of the women fell and broke her hip and had to be taken by ambulance back to San Jose, three and a half hours away. The manager Luis Ramirez Avendaño not only accompanied her but stayed overnight helping get her into the hospital, translating and making necessary phone calls. We were totally amazed at this unexpected concern. It is comforting to know that at such a large hotel the guests still get personalized servcie.

My husband and I just got back from Costa Rica about a week ago and La Fortuna was our first destination. Our room at Los Lagos was average nothing fabulous the biggest complaint for us was probably that the bathroom has an opening at the very top of the door so it's not very private and the pillows were really flat. But the resort it's self was awsome!! The swim up bar was great and all of the staff was friendly and helpful! The onsite exhibits were great. We met another couple who was staying at the Springs resort just up the road a ways and there room blew ours out of the water which had a splendid view! But we liked Los Lagos resort better.

Pros: - Great view and location with respect to the volcano - Decent renovation for what looked like a tight budget, beds and rooms are comfortable. Good Restaurant, Great Spa.
Cons: - They claim to have wireless internet, they do not, only on the lobby area, and it was out 3 out of 4 days of our stay - The front desk manager was 'rude' for lack of a better word, unable to properly explain the incorrect billing that was made at booking time. - Management has the most ridiculous rules for employees and patrons, which make it seem like they are going out of their way to create a hassle filled experience, which the staff cannot correct due to poor management. - The hotel rooms are far and spread apart, if you don't have a car don't stay here, the hotels 'inner coach' service was constantly delayed, taking 30-40 minutes to pick us up on more than one occasion and it took 3 calls to the front desk to sort it out. - The laundry service ruined a piece of clothing and refused to pay for it.

Room Tip: Close to the pool and restaurant if you don't have a car

After reading a lot of reviews before booking, I'd have to say I got exactly what I expected. The resort is very impressive!
Pro-s There are multiple big pools with water slides; I was worried it would be filled with children but it really wasn't. There were many different hot springs including several that felt rather secluded which was nice. The farms on the resort were also really cool- butterfly farm was my favorite, the frog and croc farm also must sees. I also enjoyed the little lizards that ran around the property, the koi fish pond, all the plants/wildlife. The food at the restaurant was quite good, a tad pricey but tasty and wait staff was nice. Also they have a room near check out to hold your bags if you stay past 12pm check out.
Cons- The rooms are def outdated but I since I knew this was coming I wasn't too bummed (New sheets and curtains would do wonders! They seemed so out of place for the resort) I also would have to say that the wifi was only half reliable, the wifi by the wet bar was great but the wifi at the check in desk often went out often. Some of the female staff at the front desk were kind of not helpful either, when I would ask why the wifi was out they would say "Its just like that sometimes" or "It's out yesterday, today, and tom" even if it was working yesterday or tom. When we asked for a cab after hours to be called it was like pulling teeth, that their cab service ended at 10 and we would have to call someone else, but they didnt have a local taxi # or a phone book and we couldn't dial out local numbers from our own room- but eventually they did call a cab for us. And one man that worked front desk was super helpful all the time, even let us ride into town with the hotel staff once for free- so it's not all of them that are like that.
In the end I def would stay again, the grounds are really worth every penny and it was affordable.
