We stayed at the Tabacon for three nights in January 2013. The room initially had a musty smell that eventually went away. The lighting in the room was extremely poor and most of the lamps were of low wattage. The beds were not very comfortable in that they seem to have been old and supplemented with a pillowtop to make them better. When we went across the street to sample the thermal baths I felt I was in Grand Central Station. There were tons of people, mostly day trippers not staying at the hotel, who were obese, tatooed and not very pleasant to look at. The pool on the hotel side was quite nice without crowds of people. The buffet at the thermal baths and the hotel restaurant were OK. One does not go to Costa Rica for the food but for the beauty of the country and its people. Pura Vida!!!
