“Simple pleasant charm, astonishing views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2007

There is a spectacular view of the volcano erupting at night able to view from bed (from a very safe distance!), subject to weather conditions.

A huge variety of colourful birds visited daily to the feeding table outside our window. This included a pair of green parrots and a huge pair of Norwiegan Blue parrots.

A wildish coati (albeit very friendly and a bit over-weight) lives around the site and is fed bananas (not sure how good it is for their health/survival instinct?), but keeps the guests entertained.

It reminded us of a charming ski lodge circa 1960's, with wood furnishings, and big ceilings.

The bar pool table was welcome distraction as there is not anywhere to go near by. Restaurant pleasant.

Sunset drinks on the deck are a friendly social time.

We went to the Tabacon Springs volcanic spa at the bottom of the volcano, that although expensive was a great day to relax and this was a sufficient activity and time to spend in Arenal.

Long drive from the main road to hotel which is a great adventure during the day and even more exciting at night (it is paved and totally safe but it is really in the middle of serious jungle). The kids loved it.
We stayed in one of the chalets (upper floor). Floor-to-ceiling Arenal View with coveted lava views.
Close (driving distance) to Tabacon Spa.

The views here were simply breath-taking. We stayed in the Chalet and the entire wall facing the volcano was a window. We literally laid in bed and watched the volcano erupt. Also the two hot tubs are perfectly located on the hill facing the volcano and we were able to sit there and watch the volcano as well. Fantastic! Also in the morning you are able to sit by the window in the restaurant and watch birds and other wild life eat outside the window (the staff feed the animals so they come regularly). I found the staff to be very friendly.

The only downside was the room was loud at night (some kind of water gurgling sound). I would recommend staying on the second floor (we were on the first) if possible.

The hotel is a bit far from the center of town.. and a bit pricey to get back and forth... but it is definitely worth it.

Also if you are going to book a day trip. Book it through Gringo Petes (hostel in La Fortuna) it will save you money. Also I highly recommend the horse back riding trip to Monteverde.

I can say this was the highlight of the trip.
