Owner description: If you talk with the locals they will tell you to go to Scratch River or the Free hot springs. This is perfect if you are travelling on a shoestring budget as it is FREE! To get there go to the yellow gate next to Tabacon Springs. You can park on the road shoulder and you will definitely see it. Walk down the path behind the gate and in a very short walk you will arrive at a bubbling hot creek. You can go 24 hrs a day but keep your items in your site. Leave your valuables at the hotel and just bring a towel and prepare to relax.

“Can't beat free!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

We really enjoyed these natural hot springs. There were a couple of locals who gave us not so friendly looks but besides that it was great. Park right off the road just past Tabacon resort by the yellow gate, leave your stuff in the car and walk down. It is a little tricky so bring a flash light if you're going at night and you should be fine!

“Absolutely beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

This was one of our favorite experiences in Costa Rica. You can pay a lot of money to go to the resorts, but if you're willing to travel outside of touristville, it's a great chance to experience the natural beauty of Costa Rica. There's one spot in the springs where two streams merge. The stream on the left is hot water and it merges with a second stream of cooler water coming from the other side. It's the perfect place to relax right in the middle. Pura vida!

“One of the more perfect places in the world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2014

Yes, it can get crowded and you, of course, have to be careful with your footing and your belongings (esp. at night) but it is gorgeous, warm, and magical. Mornings and afternoons you may have it mostly to yourself. I wish I was there right now!

“Why would you ever pay for hot springs !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014

Free free free free, natural and amazing. You absolutely can't beat it. No reason to bring any valuables, just come out and enjoy. Just be careful of the currents and slippery rocks
