“OH Boy is this a workout!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

With 500 steps down to the waterfall pool you are ready to jump in and cool down (even when the temps aren't hot). Be sure to bring good water shoes and a towel and a bottle of water in a backpack as they do not provide anything or have any storage! It is really beautiful down at the bottom but OH boy those 500 steps back up are a real workout....expecially for old folks (60-70 yrs old) like us!! BUT WE DID IT!!!!

“Beautiful and refreshing, plus good exercise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Close to La Fortuna, not usually in the guides, definitely worth seeing. You pay $10 per person to get in and hike down a steep trail through the woods. A few obseratory decks along the way allow for great photo opps ad beautiful views of the waterfall. At the bottom, there are two lagoons, one where the waterfall empties directly, which is like a cold jacuzzi, and another one below, which is still and calm. Bring your bathing suits and take a dip, you will feel exhilirated and rejuvenated - just in time for your hike back up! My thighs burned for days!

Do not wear sandals. Watershoes or hiking shoes are better, as the areas are in places muddy, slippery, and you'll be at risk of twisting your ankle in shoes without suport and traction.

“Walking Distance from La Fortuna”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Staying in La Fortuna this is one place you should visit, an easy 1hour approx. walking/ hiking or you can spend more money and get a horse, taxi, tour or 4x4 bike......my husband & I walked / hiked there and easy one as that, took a small picnic lunch / brunch with us...after our swim we just sat & spent aleast 2 hours there before heading back to town...worth a good half day of your own time, spending only US$10 entrance fee.

“Horseback ride to waterfall - great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

We rode by horseback to the falls and got to spend an hour or so at the waterfall. Very large and beautiful. We got to swim as well. Lots of hiking to get down to it. Be aware of this.
