I've been here a handful of times for either dinner or the bar scene or both. I had a couple of cervezas with people from my hostel the first time I went here because it looked like the only place open in town. It was still full of Ticos hanging out, drinking, and having a good time. Then one of my tour guides invited our group out to dinner at Kazan after going up Cerro Chato in the torrential rain. The food is good but a little pricier if you're a budget traveler (stick to eating at sodas). It was still a nice change from having casados all the time.
All in all, I would rather go here for a drink. It's a fun, casual bar scene with a mix of locals and tourists (mostly locals). I've been to La Fortuna on 2 separate occasions and Kazan was always a popular spot at night--always a good sign!
