“I'm Sure They Need Your Money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2011

Have to say we were quite unimpressed. You go to the main lodge for directions and a map. We followed a path and saw an Agouti but no frogs. The butterfly area was average with about 10 varieties but not much activity in there. The Indian display was supposed to be a talk but it is just a sale of artifacts. I did not like the heat and the mosquitoes, which is what you get out doors and not their fault. I wish I had seen some birds or a frog and I might have gotten more excited.

“Amazing, educational, with wonderful staff!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2011

Being from Kansas, USA, I have never been to a rainforest before. The animals, the trails, the lake, all were SO interesting. The butterfly tent was amazing. I saw a sloth! I asked our guide (who, by the way, accompanied us on his own time-we didn't hire him...) how to tell a 3-toed from a 2-toed sloth. He said to count the toes!! Actually it was about 20 feet up in a tree and all we could see was its back. (The 2 kinds are different colors). He was very informative, funny, and personable. I would go back in heartbeat. It beats Paris, Madrid, New York, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and every other place I have been. You gotta go!

“A great place to see and learn about rainforest animals!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2011

We went to Ecocento Denaus on our way out of Arenal. We hadn't seen a great deal of wildlife and hoped to see some of the things that we missed before we left the rainforest. The price was very reasonable $10 US per person for a guided tour.

Myron was our guide - he was an educated biologist volunteering his time at this once farmland/now rehabilitated rainforest conservation area. He was a wealth of knowledge. He spent over an hour with us and was incredible with our kids. It was a very interactive experience. He taught us how/where to look for different kinds of frogs, how to pick out different bird sounds, and many other things.

This was the best bargain we found in Arenal. It feels like our money was well spent because it helps support a conservation project that has become home to many displaced rainforest animals. We saw sloths, a Jesus Christ lizard, a Caiman, a variety of birds (up close), monkeys, and a beautiful assortment of butterflies.

It's only about 10 minutes out of town and well worth the drive. Our kids are 11 and 14 and are still talking about it a month later. Thanks again Myron - it was a joy to spend the afternoon with you!

One word of caution - bring your bug spray. There are quite a few mosquitos ( they didn't bother us once we applied our spray, but it would have been unpleasant if we didn't have it handy).
