“Warm friendly hostel in central location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

When I first I arrived I was immediately greeted by Elena. She quickly made me feel at ease, showed me around the hostel, and offered suggestions around La Fortuna. I spent a few afternoons lazily sitting in the rocking chairs in the front. Throughout my stay the hostel staff was very accomodating.

The hostel is in a great location a couple blocks down from the main street of La Fortuna. Rooms are inward from the street and quiet. Room and bathroom was clean & minimalistic but did give a grey-green painted cement wall vibe. Adjascent bakery offering a tasty assortment of cookies & savory pasteries was definitely a plus.

Through the hostel, I booked a Arenal hiking & Baldi hot springs package for $50 and rapelling from a waterfall, horseback riding, zip lining package for $75. Great deal, especially for the hiking & hot springs since I left @ 3 and came back @ 10:30 PM. I would recommend going with a group of people to chill at the many hot spring pools and swim up bars at Baldi hot springs.

This was the least expensive place we stayed on our whole trip, and for $35 a night for both of us, it couldn't be beat. The rooms were definitely simple (as expected). We did get hot water, but it took quite awhile and didn't last too long. They also did laundry for us on site, which was great. Breakfast was fantastic. Eggs, fruit, bread, gallo pinto, fresh-grown avocado, the works. The location was also great... right on the main street of La Fortuna, easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. My only advice- they don't clean the room daily unless you ask for it. We didn't care, but if it bothers you, you can ask them and they will be happy to clean it. Overall, if you are on a budget like we were, this place is a great value.

Granted, it's not really the hotel's fault, but we were misled to believe the price was $17 per night. NOT $17 per person.(There are 2 of us) The guy who told us this had been a tenant there for many months, and he showed us our room while the clerk was away. We confirmed "$17 for the room" he said yes.

And that would have been a great deal! Clean mattress, clean bathroom, hot water. The place is nice and quiet and the breakfast is good.

We typically stay at places between $15-$25 a night (total!) and this place was on par with those places.

We weren't happy to find out that we were told wrong. Again, not the hotel's fault, but we wouldn't have stayed there for $34/night. Not in our budget. And for that much, I would have expected more.

There are lots of places in CR that charge less and have facilities the same or nicer.

So an average rating for me.

We went to La Fortuna from Monteverde not excepting a great experience (lots of people had told us how much more touristy and naff it is in relation to Monteverde) but we were pleastantly surprised. Yes it solely exists as a town due to the now dormant volcano and the hot springs and as such has a pretty large tourist network but it’s actually quite nice to just spend a few days in. Posada Inn is conveniently located just down the main strip. The accommodation is adequate – it’s certainly not bad but it’s not brilliant value for money..where we stayed in Monteverde was better value. The room had a bunk bed along with our double. The breakfast was quite nice, simple and pretty basic but does the job. One slight gripe (although not really an issue) was that there was limited English spoken by anyone other than one girl..or so it seemed. In a tourist led town, Posada’s probably quite a good bet but won’t be the best place we stayed on our trip.

Excellent hostel with nice garden area to chat with other travelers.
Great location, only a short stroll to the centre of town. Big, clean rooms, we had a private double. Friendly, helpful staff. Carmen makes a tasty, big breakfast! The kitchen can also be used by guests. She also helped us with shuttles, taxis and tickets to Baldi Hot Springs. All this for a very reasonable price! Probably the best value for money accommodation in Costa Rica!

We stayed for 4 nights in a room with private bathroom and if we ever go back to la Fortuna we'll stay at Posada Inn again because everything there was excellent. The room was quite big (1dbl bed+1 bunk bed but we were just 2), hot water in the shower, little outdoor (but covered) kitchen to cook, view over the volcano from the 1st floor, nice :-)
Moreover the staff is really helpful and friendly, they even prepared us a packed breakfast to take with us when we left very early one morning. They phoned for us to book tours or transport, very nice of them as I don't think they get any commission for that. Overall a great stay even if the weather was lousy... Definetely recommend the place.

I stayed at Posado Inn during Christmas time and the staff at was more then accommodiating. The breakfast was excellent and if you wanted any special requests they were sure to do those for you. The rooms were big and the showers were hot. It was close enough to town that I could walk everywhere I wanted to go. Elaine was very helpful on arranging tours. Carmen is an excellent cook. It was very quite so you could get a good nite sleep. There is a outdoor kitchen that you can use to cook meals and there is a bakery a few steps away that is open 24 hours a day. I highly recommend Posado Inn
