My wife and I purchased a partially inclusive 5-day vacation package from Costa Rica Descents (CRD) through LivingSocial, including several days worth of activities (class II-III rafting, touring an organic farm, river safari, jungle hike near volcano Arenal, and trip to Baldi Hot Springs Resort), lodging at Hotel La Pradera, and transfers to/from the airport in San Jose. We also added an 11-zipline jungle tour and a pass to La Fortuna waterfall (totally worth it!) after the fact. There were so many folks involved with provided us a world-class active vacation: Gonzo, Sofia, Alejandra, Coca, Jose, just to name a few. CRD's attention to detail, whether it was picking us up from the airport promptly or maximizing our enjoyment of each activity, was fairly remarkable. CRD is a great option for those who want to experience Costa Rica to the fullest, but only have less than a week to do so. If you've got a lot more time and/or you're wanting to travel on a shoestring budget, you'd probably be better off going a-la-cart with the activities, etc. For my wife and I, we had little time and were willing to pay a little bit more to optimize our use of time on the ground. The items that you would save on going a-la-cart would be the accommodations (they were very nice, but perhaps you're more of the spartan type?), the ride to/from the airport (but you would probably be forced to stay in San Jose at some point <danger, danger>), and booking fee (which came to 10 percent of the total deal, but honestly that's not much of a surcharge considering that they're driving you to/from just about every organized activity). So in summary, if you want to maximize your vacation and experience Pura Vida in Costa Rica in under one week, send CRD a message; they'll take care of the rest!
