“Wonderful relaxing spot. You never need to leave the property”

Our second stop on our Costa Rican dream vacation found us looking up at Arenal volcano which until recently had been active. This was one amazing place with very comfortable rooms and an amazing property. There are less than 50 rooms in total spread among the property. Natural hot spring water runs through all the pools, with varying temperatures to your taste. They have 5 different restaurants, including an amazing sushi bar. Extremely friendly staff makes your stay even that much more enjoyable. They even have a hot water slides that lead you into romantic small pools in the jungle.

The first time we came here we were staying at another resort and stumbled onto this on. We ended up coming here every night to enjoy the dining and the hotsprings. We just knew we had to come back and stay this time. The drive from the airport was long, really long, we were even saying there was no way we would come back here again, that is until we arrived! This place was every bit worth the long ride and next time we're bringing the kids!
The Villa Guayaba us the most beautiful Villa we have ever stayed in. The view of the Volcano behind the Villa paired with your own personal hotspring is heavenly. 2 comfy hammocks, a real kitchen, a stocked bar! The restaurants are awesome, the swim up bar with great, friendly, personable staff has been a treat!
You even have your own golf cart!
There is so much to do on site there us no reason to leave, but if you want to they arrange all transportation for you! A real gem, worth everything it took to get here!
Next time we're bringing the 3 kids and staying at this exact villa again!

The Springs was a little Oasis that I really didn't expect. We were guests for a wedding that was held there so we didn't shop around between resorts, but we spent 4 days at the Westin Conchal at the coast and 3 days at the Springs. The visit at the Springs was amazing. There was a ton to do with respect to activities they offer. They have about 28 hot springs which will take you half a day to hop between if you go quickly.

Our group coordinator, Melanie Marsell, was an absolute pleasure to deal with. She helped me arrange a flyboarding adventure which was one of the most fun activities that I have ever done (and I am a certified sky diver and thrill seeker).

I also found the prices at the Springs was much more fairly priced than at the Westin, even though it is more secluded. We should have bought our little souvenirs at the Springs rather than the Westin.

The resort itself is new, built in 2007 with additions still on going. The springs are mostly faux-rock with naturally hot spring water pumped up through them but they fit in well with their surroundings. It gives me the Disney-Animal Kingdom feel since they have built an "African Safari-like experience" in the middle of Florida.

I highly recommend this resort. The staff are excellent, and the food was delicious (especially Las Ventanas restaurant). If you have the $$, there are plenty of activities that could keep you busy for a week or more.

Room Tip: a Junior sweet provided a lot of space that helps when you have 2 kids under 2 years old

I recently stayed at The Springs on a trip to Costa Rica. I chose it in large part because of the glowing reviews on Tripadvisor and I have to say I was somewhat disappointed. My previous experience has been that anyplace where they slap a plastic wristband on you at check-in is a place where you will be treated like a number more than an individual and The Springs was no exception. Yes, the rooms are beautiful, the view amazing and the activities plentiful. However, I found the pools crowded ( and by the end of the day, not very well maintained), and the food very average- on par with that found at all-inclusive type properties. The staff were, friendly and helpful though I sometimes got the sense that they were just going through the motions. This resort has a lot to recommend it, but given the cost of staying here, I would probably not choose this property again.

Room Tip: From what I could tell, all rooms have nice views

Our family of three stayed here for four nights in March. This was as close to perfect as a vacation stay has ever been for our family. First off, as enormous as this property is, there are fewer than 50 guest rooms, so it feels very exclusive and private. Nothing was ever crowded, but we did "run into" the same groups of people throughout the week, and as a result, we made some new friends. The rooms were spacious enough for all three of us (my husband, me, and our young daughter) to feel quite comfortable. We had a king sized bed and a roll away bed, plenty of drawer and closet space - and a huge balcony overlooking the majestic Arenal Volcano. We did not take full advantage of their "Club Rio", which offers many activities - opting instead to go with some other local tour groups. But we could easily have stayed another week and found plenty to do on site. The one downside is that the only way in and out of the property is along a narrow, unpaved, winding road, which felt pretty treacherous, especially at night. It is also a pretty long haul ($40 taxi) to get to the nearest town. We rented a car for our last day (Alamo has a small office in La Fortuna) so that we could explore on our own, and we were glad we did. The resort's food was terrific. There was some "typical Costa Rica" food on the menu, but most items were standard fare such as fish/chicken/beef/pasta. Breakfasts were fantastic. A large buffet with a wide assortment of foods, including typical CR fare, omelette, pancake, waffle bar, smoothie bar, yogurts, pastries, dry cereal, and of course great fresh fruit. The main swimming pool (actually, part of their hot springs system) has a "swim up bar" that is family friendly, serving cocktails to the adults and "mocktails" to the kids. The other springs on site are smaller, but there are plenty of them to choose from if you want something more private and quiet than the larger pool, which tends to attract a decent crowd in the late afternoon as people return from their day excursions. There are a lot of "springs" resorts in this area, but I just can't imagine anything topping this one. We will definitely be back to The Springs at Arenal!

I stayed here for several nights while on my honeymoon. The place is a dream. Gorgeous property; amazing views of Mt. Arenal; excellent dining; plenty of activities; a fantastic spa; highly-professional, excellent staff; awesome, super comfortable rooms with great balconies and mountain views. Its somewhat secluded, but its amazing peaceful. Though secluded, its easy enough to get out of their for day trips to go rafting, zip-lining, or whatever else you fancy. There were other couples there on honeymoon. Also several families. Not a partying-type place, pretty quiet at night. Would go back in a heartbeat. The thing, I found about Costa, is that there are not that many true luxury resorts, especially away from the West Coast. We saw a lot of other properties in the area and this is definitely the only true luxury resort. So if that's what you're looking for in the la fortuna area this is really your only option.
