“Fantastic and Luxurious Resort!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

This was a perfect place to end our trip to Costa Rica. The rooms had every thing you needed and more! The hot springs and the Club Rio were incredible. The staff was very friendly and bent over backwards to make our stay more than comfortable. All of the rooms face the beautiful Arenal volcano so you cannot go wrong with any of the rooms!

Room Tip: Any of the rooms are excellent since they face the Arenal Volcano.

We recently spent a day at The Springs Resort on a day pass. My husband and older daughter did the Club Rio package which included 2 activities. They did the horseback riding and the tubing and they had a blast. The service at the front desk was excellent. We had 9:30 reservations for horseback riding, but we arrived just after the 9:15 bus to Club Rio had already left so the man who helped us arranged for a van to take us down to Club Rio. FYI the buses down to Club Rio only run twice an hour, so you have to time your arrival correctly or you will be waiting half an hour for the next bus. Once we arrived at Club Rio, my husband and daughter were whisked away to their horseback riding tour and I did the wild animal sanctuary tour with my younger daughter. It was a very nice tour and we got to see lots of animals up close, including 2 sloths. I regret not bringing my iPhone to take pictures of the animals. I thought we would be hanging out by the pools the whole day, so i purposely left my valuables at our hotel, but they had lockers available at Club Rio so it's fine to bring phones and cameras.

After our tour, we hung out at the hot springs for about 1.5 hours. We visited 4 different pools, most of which were set at 99 degrees and it was so relaxing and the view was amazing. Each pool felt so private. It was such a wonderful experience. The staff members at Club Rio were so friendly and helpful. Five star service. My husband and daughter had lunch included with their Club Rio pass, so we ate at the restaurant there and the food was delicious. After lunch, we visited the pools at the resort and hung out at the monkey slide, which the kids LOVED. They had the best time. Afterwards, my husband and daughter did the tubing and had a blast. We took one last dip in the hot springs and took the bus back up, but our daughters insisted on stopping by the monkey slide again so we did. This time, the slide was more crowded and there were some older kids who kept walking up the slide while the younger kids were coming down so that was a little dangerous. A few times, I had to call out to my daughters not to come down as there was a boy walking up. I was afraid someone would get hurt, so we didn't stay too long.

All in all, it was a great day pass visit. The property is quite big and while there were lots of amazing pools and springs, it did seem like a bit of a walk to get from the monkey slide pool back to the lobby. One small critique - there wasn't any water available at the pools and the towels were a bit rough. At our hotel (Nayara), there was ice water and pink lemonade that you can help yourself to at the pools, so that was something we missed at The Springs. In summary, it was a really fun day and the kids had a blast! Such a kid-friendly hotel and the other guests are so friendly!

i didn't stay at the hotel, but spent an evening at the springs. These were easily the nicest springs I went to at Arenal. Not crowded, very nice facilities, friendly staff and lovely springs. Dinner was also very nice. Well worth visiting.

If you are going to the Arenal area of Costa Rica, I highly recommend this hotel. Great service and fantastic facilities. The adventures are really good and highly recommend to visit their new Club Rio.

Our family of four (mom, dad, and two kids ages 12 and 9) just back from a glorious 10 days in Costa Rica! The Springs Resort was our first stop for a 3-night stay, and it lived up to all of our expectations and the well-deserved rave reviews on-line. The dining and living spaces, as well as the gardens, pools, and landscaped grounds are absolutely immaculate while still somehow blending into the lush, natural beauty of the surrounding area. We stayed in a first floor “Vista Plus” room which is the most “basic” of the Springs’ accommodations but it was anything but basic! It has a separate bedroom and bathroom (not at all “small” as described on website) so both the adults and kids can have a bit of privacy. The room was spacious, beautiful, and would have had a lovely view of Arenal had it not been rainy and cloudy all 3 days - in which case I was relieved I had not spent the extra $$ on an upgraded room or Villa when the view would have been no better anyhow. But despite Mother Nature not cooperating, we had an incredible time and enjoyed all the amenities the Springs has to offer. The kids quickly found the Monkey Slide and we found the adjacent Los Perdidos Bar and hot springs – everyone was happy – the rain even made it more of an adventure! We also visited during Easter week – which is apparently the busiest week of the year, but you never would have known that. The resort is so spacious and the hot Springs so plentiful, we routinely had whole Spring pools just to ourselves. You never feel crowded at all – so luxurious and relaxing! You won't have that experience at most of the hot springs around Arenal. In terms of food, prior to our trip, I was a bit concerned about dining options, but the food was excellent at all of the dining areas at the Springs and there were lots of traditional options for kids like mine who are not at all adventurous eaters (e.g., think chicken tenders, pasta, pizza, etc). I have noticed that others have commented that service could be a bit slow especially in the evenings, and I can’t disagree compared to the eat-and-run standards of other countries! But you are on vacation, in one of the most spectacular settings on the planet, being served by friendly wait staff – why rush? So it was never really a problem for us – we got used to the more relaxed pace right away. Last thing I could add is that the concierge staff was very helpful in advance of our trip planning out all of our activities and driving transfers. Everything went off on time, without a hitch, and we had an absolute blast! Even my 9-year-old loved the “adventurous” activities of waterfall rappelling, Sky-trek zip-lining, and tubing. The Springs staff wouldn’t recommend such tours/activities for their guests unless the outfits are top-notch and that was definitely our experience – never felt unsafe despite the wild things we were doing. Also really loved the guided tour of the Springs (Jorge was our guide) – so very knowledgeable and personable. He taught us a ton of cool things about the history of the property and its wildlife and landscape – lots of fun - the kids were hanging on his every word! The only thing that made our departure from the Springs tolerable was knowing we still had 3 days at the end of our trip to enjoy their Sister Property – the Peace Lodge – which was equally fantastic. We hope it won’t be long before we get back for another visit!

Room Tip: Vista Plus is same price as a standard guest room but is designed to be handicap accessible so has a...

Two families with kids ages 3-12 spent four days here and really enjoyed the time. The rooms had beautiful views of the volcano, the pools and slides entertained the kids, and the hot springs were very relaxing. Kids loved the game room, which was staffed 3p-10p every night and was close enough that the adults could enjoy some peace at dinner. The breakfast buffet was wonderful. The staff was courteous and helpful even in dealing with our travel agent who had made a mistake in booking an excursion. Would recommend a trip here for families. If you go please take an excursion to the Sky Tram zip lining place. It was amazing!

Room Tip: we were on the bottom floor and still had a great view of the volcano,.
