“So romantic and peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

Our travel planners, Stefan & Pat at costaricavacationplanning.com, worked in a day pass for my husband and I to go to The Springs on our honeymoon and it was amazing. We actually ended up going there a second day as well. We did the animal tour, which was very interesting, and spent a lot of time in their hot spring pools. We also enjoyed dinner there twice and had wonderful service and their soup and salad of the buffet was very good. This is a destination not to be missed (though drive slow on your way in, the road is an experience all in itself)!

My husband and I stayed here three times over two years. We absolutely love this hotel. It is so relaxing and serene. The lobby in this hotel is breathtaking with an unobstructed view of Arenal. Views all around this hotel and in each restaurant are amazing.

The rooms are large and comfortable. Our favourite part is the balcony each with two hammocks overlooking the Arenal Volcano. Its wonderful.

The hotel offers many different natural hot springs at various temperatures and a swim up bar. We found that the pools were never busy, since there are so many options.

The food is also great.

In my opinion, it is the best hotel in the area (and I have stayed at several, having lived in Costa Rica for two years and visiting Arenal frequently).

We arrived by rental car (stayed at Nayara) right as the last animal tour was leaving so the concierge kindly let us jump on the bus w/o having completed payment for our day passes (though we did have a reservation b/c it was Easter Week). Enjoyed seeing the animals; very nice enclosures, comparable w/a great zoo. Monkeys, sloths, toucans, marguays, and some other cats.

It is a beautiful, albeit very large hotel and as many others have mentioned, there were numerous springs of varying temperatures, a fun (but somewhat dangerous, definitely watch younger kids) waterslide, and two bars where you could get mixed drinks, beer, wine, etc. Our pina coladas were not strong but they were tasty.

We decided to eat dinner there too and that was our only disappointment. The food was served buffet style (apparently it's up to the "chef" to decide whether to offer a la carte or buffet each night) and it was the absolute worst buffet we have EVER had, especially when you consider it was $30 extra per person (including for our young kids). We tried at least 3/4 of the offerings and some of it we could not even eat...Even the desserts did not taste good, and we tried all four of them...I am wondering if perhaps they give different food to the daytrippers...? There is another fancier ($$$) restaurant (reservations encouraged), so maybe that food is better, but my advice for day trippers is to enjoy the springs and eat dinner anywhere else!

We came to The Springs Resort with our family of 5 on a two day day pass. What a deal that was. The hotel was sold out so we couldn't stay, so we decided that the next best thing was the day pass. For $50 pp per day you got 2 activities (we did horseback first day and tubing the second day) and lunch on the first day. The lunch was wonderful and the location beautiful. We were able to be there from 9:00am till 10:00pm. The facilities and the staff are top notch. The resort is designed in a way that it seems like you are the only people there. There are so many levels and places to enjoy the hot springs that it never feels crowded. The kids LOVED the monkey slide. All in all if you are headed to La Fortuna this should be on your list of places to go and things to see.

Coco was the driver that the Springs sent to pick us up in San Jose and we requested him for all of our outings needing transportation. He was very helpful and made us all comfortable. I cannot imagine staying anywhere other than The Springs if we go back to the area. Everyone on the staff was extremely helpful and so friendly. Renso was our waiter a few times and was most enjoyable. From check in, to house keeping to waiters & waitresses everyone was great. The only place that I have every been that everyone was so pleasant. Joselyn was the concierge that helped us most of the time and did a fantastic job in helping us choose outings and informing us on the area. All outings were amazing and we wished we had time for more. We did the zip lines tour from The Springs, Waterfall rappeling, ATV'ing, and tubing at Club Rio. All were well done and a suggestion might be to purchase a GoGo camera to take video during the events (some places rent them). Our room was very comfortable, clean perfectly with towel sculptures daily. Each room has a wonderful flower arrangement that is prepared daily on site with many local flowers. There are almost as many pools as there are rooms so it is no problem to find a quiet spot to relax and soak. The Springs is perfect for couples or families. All of the restaurants served the freshest food which was wonderfully prepared. Most of the food was organically & locally grown leading it to be far better than what is served in USA restaurants. We did not try the The WIndows (it looked very good) as the weather was always so nice we wanted to eat outside. The breakfast buffet had so many delicious things it was hard not to go overboard. The second half of our trip was to Guanacasta which was nice but left us thinking of the relaxing tranquil experience of The Springs. Thank you and nice job to all the Springs staff.

Room Tip: we were in 215 but I think all of the rooms have an awesome view. First level may have a few trees...

We recently stayed for five days in a two-bedroom villa at the Springs. The resort itself is really beautiful. It's very private. It sits a significant distance off the main road and the rooms look directly across the valley at the volcano (the pictures do not do the view justice). There are a ton of hot springs, which are very nice (though as other reviewers note, the minerals will stain your skin and clothes). The pools and slides are great too -- kept our kids busy for hours. The rooms are very large, with enornously high ceilings and very high end furniture. In fact, they are probably the largest rooms I've seen in a hotel (we were with another family that stayed in the main property, and their rooms were huge as well). Our villa had a full kitchen (with granite countertops and stocked with wine, spirits, and other types of alcohol) that we never used, but I suppose it could be useful for those wishing to cook meals. It also had its own (and large) backyard patio and a very large spa that looked directly at the volcano. The restaurants on property are good, but not great.

Would really recommend this place for families -- with kids of all ages. That said, in speaking with the manager, the owner is interested in putting a casino on property. I worry that will totally change the dynamic of this beautiful, family-friendly place.
