“Another amazing stay at The Springs!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2013

This was our second time staying at The Springs, and we absolutely love this resort! First, we want to thank the entire staff for such a wonderful vacation. We were spoiled during our second stay just for being repeat guests, and it made us feel so special! The staff is a huge reason why we went back this year.
My mom, sister, and I stayed for six nights during the low season in early September. September is considered to be during the rainy season, but honestly there wasn't that much rain and the rain we did get was mostly at night. It's such a great time to visit due to the lack of crowds.
The resort is gorgeous! So green and luscious, with incredible flowers everywhere you turn. The main building and the rooms are all beautifully built as well! The pools throughout the resort are filled with natural spring water and have varying temperatures, so anyone can enjoy them, and are cleaned every day. Their game room is a lot of fun with table tennis, video games, puzzles, and virtual golf. There is also a spa if you need a pedicure or massage during your stay.
All of the rooms are awesome! You have to take a short walk from the main building to get to them, but it's nice exercise. They all have a great view of the volcano, a patio with hammocks, and a beautiful interior. You also get fresh flowers in your room everyday. We had the chance to stay in a two bedroom suite on the fourth floor, and it was incredible! The patio and one bedroom had vaulted ceilings while the other bedroom had a bay window. Needless to say, the views of Arenal Volcano were top notch.
There are multiple places to eat and drink at the resort. We really enjoyed Tres Cascadas and mostly ate dinner there this year, but be sure to try the Costa Rican breakfast at least once! Ginger Sushi was also a favorite of ours. The fruit in Costa Rica is super delicious, so we had to eat it everyday at either Treetops Grill or Club Rio.
Club Rio is where the resort's various on-site activities are located, as well as a restaurant and bar. If you've ever wanted to see a sloth, feed a toucan, or see a jungle cat, they have them all on a tour that is free for guests. We went kayaking in the river that runs through the property, and horseback riding (twice!). Horseback riding is our favorite activity because you get to see a lot more of the property that you wouldn't otherwise see and the horses can go faster than a walking pace if you want.
So, if you are looking to stay in Arenal, definitely consider The Springs Resort and Spa; you will not regret it! We enjoy our time there so much, we're going back in nine months!

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms!

This is a must do while in La Fortuna. We didn't stay in the hotel but booked a day trip there for the hot springs and wild life tour. The wild life tour was great. We got to actually be inside the cages with tropical birds and a sloth. It was great for pictures and an actual chance to get close to the animals. There were cats and monkeys as well but we weren't allowed in those cages.

Afterwards, we spent the evening at the hot springs. They had three to four different areas of springs, all with different pools at different temperatures. Two of these included a bar, which was convenient. After spending a few hours hanging out at the springs we made our way up to the hotel restaurant and enjoyed a nice fish dinner. The entire experience was amazing. I suggest that even if you don't stay here, at least check out the hotel. It has great view of Arenal. Also, since it was November, there weren't a ton of kids running around which made the experience slightly more relaxing than usual.

This location as well as their sister property "Peace Lodge" is out of this world. Luxury travel at its best! The owner Lee Banks is a genius, having created those unforgettable properties. The staff is absolutely amazing, too many great individuals to name them here in person ... thanks Victoria @ game room :-)
I recommend visiting both places ... you will be speechless for a long time. Follow me on Twitter @BeerRunTravel for more.

The hotel is amazing. Feels like heaven on earth. Hot springs are available on sight !! Some are located a bit far so could be more or less private.
Booking the activities from the hotel directly is the best thing. They have deals with the best companies. Ziplining with Sky and walking bridges with Jacamar.
By the way, to come to Arenal, rent a car with GPS from San Jose. It is easy. Count 3 hours.

My husband, myself and another couple bought a Groupon for this Resort for 5 nights just to try......could not have made a better choice!

THE RESORT: absolutely amazing...I felt like the property was near perfect. The resort has 5 levels all with open spectacular views of Arnal Volcano and the pure beauty of the lush jungle surrounding. Each level had restaurants, the spa, a gym, a pool/dart room, business center, relaxation rooms, gift shops, etc. so all the things needed were centrally located in a stunningly beautiful setting. The outside pools are even more breathtaking as you walk through to see no less than 20 different spring pools to begin to try that are immediately located around the resort.....but if you take a short walk, you will find a winding trail into the Jungle called the Perido Springs. Perido Springs just felt magical. We would use them at night....the waters were warm to hot, which was a wonderful way to end an evening.
Last but not least was Club Rio located on property and just a 5 minute complimentary bus ride to and from. This was yet another wonderful surprise. There is a rock climbing wall, horseback riding, tubing or kayaking down class 1 rapids, animal sanctuary with free tours, night time hikes, etc. However, as you end the kayaking or tubing it ends under a warm waterfall. As you look up the water fall you realize there are 2 spring pools above the waterfall one above the other. We went up and sat in the highest spring overlooking the waterfall and just could not believe how truly spectacular things can be. There is a path that will lead you to another 12 or so springs located in the jungle and secluded. Breathtaking......

The concierge was always nice and helpful. The recommended trips of ziplining with sky trek and repelling down waterfalls with pure trek were both GREAT!!!!!!!

THE RESORT ROOM: We booked the Villa Calatea, which has 2 bedroom/bathrooms w/jacuzzi bathtubs, a living area with 30 foot ceilings, music system, and kitchen. No stove though, but it wasn't an issue for us because of microwave. Each bedroom had its own outdoor terrace with 2 hammocks .....one overlooks volcano, the other has an outdoor shower and grill and additional terrace with table. Outside you have your own pool with cascading water overlooking volcano to yourselves. This was the best feature.....being able to relax at your own pool all the while Donald the bartender comes up to bring drinks, food or whatever you want. The Perido Springs bar is located just across the way from the Villa Calatea, so having a bartender personally coming up was nice! We also had personal use of a golf cart rather than take the steep hills which was very nice.

SPA: my one complaint, not with services, which I did use....my husband and I did 90 min couples massage.....it was that there was No toiletry items such as hairbrushes or combs, no lotion for body or hair, nothing really. The spa had tiny bottle of shampoo conditioner and body soap in a couple showers, but that was it. When I go to a spa, I expect that the spa has the basics there to assist me get ready.

Overall, want to go back with my 10 year old and husband. Great place, wonderful local people, great adventure......

We stayed at the Spring last week. It's a fantastic location, but I wouldn't bother staying here. If you want to enjoy it, get a day pass and stay in town. The hotel is really remote and about a 30 minute drive to town. Because of this, you are trapped in a place where the food and drink are really expensive and the hotel has no ability to handle the volumes, especially in the restaurants. Every night we dined (and payed way too much) it took over 90 minutes to get our food. When we expressed our frustration, it was met with what I can only call a smirk.

There a bunch of great hotels in town or close to town that I would stay instead of the Springs. You will also save a ton of money in doing so.

My wife and I recently celebrated our Honeymoon in the La Fortuna area, and we stayed at the Springs for the first few days of our visit.

Arrival: We arrived via Liberia (LIR) Airport, which is a roughly a 3 hour ride to The Springs. We did not have a rental car, and we set up transportation through the hotel just prior to our stay. The ride is a bit rough at times, as the main highway is under construction for much of the way. However it becomes very scenic once you get to Lake Arenal, and you wind your way around to the Hotel. Heads up if you get queasy on long, winding drives.
Once you arrive at the resort, a concierge is there to meet you. After you check in, they give you a thorough tour of the property which is bigger then I thought. The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly at our arrival.

Room: We reserved an Alta Vista guest room, with a balcony and full view of the volcano. The room as very clean, with a very large bathroom.

Resort: The resort was big, with many pools and hot springs. The resort attracts both families and couples, and is very accommodating to both. We ate at all of the restaurants while there, and are all very good. We especially liked Las Ventanas, which gives you a sunset or nighttime view of the area, high above the tree tops. We also liked the pool and sushi bars, as the bartenders were very friendly, and funny.

Club Rio: The hotel gladly helps you make reservations for activities around the area. They also have their own activity center at the lower part of the resort property called Club Rio. They offer many different options, and are very close to the resort with free transportation.

Overall this resort is excellent, with a great staff and a very well kept hotel. Highly recommend trying out the Springs, you won't be disappointed.
