“Beautiful and much to do on property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

This is a fabulous hotel near the Arenal Volcano. The staff was very professional and helpful. My family of four stayed here for two nights on a recent trip to Costa Rica. It is pretty pricey, but worth it for a couple of days. There are 27 thermal pools on the property, all fed by thermal springs. Each one has the temperature posted on it. We tried out just about all of them. This hotel is a long way from anywhere, and the last 20 minutes are on an unpaved road. So we chose to stay at the resort and take advantage of the many activities that Club Rio had to offer. Besides enjoying the thermal pools, we also took a white water tubing adventure, and also walked through the onsite animal sanctuary. We got to feed toucan's! They also have horseback riding and volcano tours. The Arenal Hanging Bridges is "nearby" so we walked those on our way to our next hotel. Definitely worth a trip off property if you have a half day. For any "Bachelor" fans, they filmed part of Brad's season here. I would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Every room as a view of the volcano from a picture window in your room, so they are all good!

My family (my husband, two teens, ages 16 and 13, and myself) stayed at the Springs in July 2013. Our jaws dropped when we walked into the lobby and pretty much stayed that way during our stay. The hotel is luxury...the amenities are spectacular (we used the gym, the hot springs, the pool, the restaurants, and Club Rio...we did not use the spa, but it looked great from the outside)...the service was always above and beyond. We loved waking up to the view of Arenal every morning. The restaurants were also all very good, but our favorite was the sushi restaurant. Our time at the hotel was the best part of our vacation. If I had to say something less than positive about this Resort it would be that the road to the hotel is really bad and I would think that with all of the time, money and attention that they put into the resort, that they would be able to repair the road a little. However, once you arrive, you are easily able to forget about everything on the outside and relax in amazing surroundings.

This was our first visit to the Springs resort. We stayed in La Fortuna in a villa, and our objective for our trip was to relax, see nature and hit the hot springs.. We had heard so many good things about the Springs Resort, and were pleasantly surprised that a 2 day pass was $50. Compared to the other options at the other resorts, this seemed to be the best deal at a great property.
Upon arrival, the staff was helpful and attentive. One of the highlights was the guided tour by Jorge - he has limitless knowledge of Costa Rican wildlife based on his past work and current work at the Springs. They have set up several natural areas to protect wildlife that had been donated by the government rescuers and individuals as well. They have toucans, monkeys, cats that are all well cared for, and kept here since they are not able to be safely relased back to the wild. The story behind this told by Jorge was very interesting.
Overall, the experience was well worth it, and we'll be back. The various springs are well divided to not feel like your intruding on someone else's getaway. Don't forget to go down the hot springs water-slide - I don't know how many times I did, but I kept telling myself "one more time"!

My fiancé and I got engaged at The Springs and I couldn't have asked for a better location! We arrived here after several days in Monteverde, and we felt welcomed the minute we arrived. It is a long, and very bumpy drive up the road to get to The Springs, so we didn't actually leave the resort until it was time to go home. (And we wished we had more time there!) All of the restaurants were great, although the breakfast buffet was a bit lacking. We especially loved Las Ventanas, which was extremely romantic and a perfect end to our trip. The views from our room were breathtaking, and we enjoyed relaxing on the hammocks after breakfast each day. We tried our best to experience all the different hot springs and pools located throughout the resort. If you have the time, definitely take advantage of the Club Rio on site. Amazing! We told one guide of our engagement and when we arrived back to our room, there were cute towel swans placed on our bed! The resort and everything on it is very expensive, but you get what you pay for, and we were not disappointed!

Room Tip: All of the rooms have perfect views of Arenal, but the Alta Vista rooms on the second floor have hug...

My husband and I stayed 14 nights at The Springs Resort. It is simply one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed. It is a small boutique hotel located in the northern part of Costa Rica near the small town of La Fortuna. I recommend going into the town of La Fortuna for a meal, it is a charming little town. We went to the Lava Lounge for a drink and ate at Don Ruffinos and Nene's both excellent restaurants. The long drive in from San Jose airport allowed us to see the beautiful landscape of the country. We stayed in a Jacuzzi suite on the first floor which was large and spacious with a beautiful view of the Arenal Volcano. There are numerous and beautiful hot springs located all over the property to select from. These springs melt your tensions away, we loved them. There is an animal sanctuary on the property and you can view many different animals; sloths, monkeys, various cats and tucans. I recommend the Twillight Tour with Jorge who was a bastion of information on the animals and the Costa Rican landscape. They have a wonderful selection of excursions to suit anyone's fancy. The Spa is a must if you enjoy pampering, I had wonderful massage, scrub and facial. You can be as relaxed or as active as you desire. The food was lovely and in 14 nights we never had a bad meal. Las Ventanas was great for dinner and Tres Cascadas had wonderful buffet breakfasts each morning. The hotel even made me Tortillla Soup upon request. The extra touches made this resort a standout; the desserts left in our room many evenings, the incredible towel art by our lovely maid and on our last evening we entered our suite to rose petals covering the whole room, a bath, dessert and lovely towel art; so incredible. One of the highlights of our trip was the staff at The Springs, service was incomparable. I want to give a particular shout out to a few of the staff who provided us absolutely stellar service; Adrian, Alvaro, Octavio, Roxanne at the Restaurants, Arnoldo, Oscar and Andy at the Bar and Fabien at the Front Desk thank you all so much!!!! We hope to come back soon.

Having recently gone vegan as a family of 5, I was a bit concerned about how our trip to The Springs would turn out from a food perspective. About a week prior to our vacation, I contacted the resort and was pleasantly surprised to hear that they were fully prepared to accommodate our eating style. Not only were they prepared, they were excited about it!

On the day we arrived, they arranged a private meeting for us with the head chef so that we could discuss the types of foods we like. To our utter amazement, by that evening, they had given us a printed out menu of what they were planning to serve us for each meal over the next 7 days. They even said that we should let them know if there were any foods we did not care for from this menu and they would gladly make substitutions. We were so excited to partake in the incredible sounding cuisine that was ahead of us.

Nothing could have prepared us for how outstanding the food was! Not only was each dish a sight to behold, but the tastes, quality of the food and satisfaction we felt after each meal surpassed any expectation we could ever have imagined. The chefs took pride in what they prepared for us and waited after personally serving us the food to make sure it was to our liking.

I told my husband and kids that this is a very hard act to follow and once we get home, not to expect such delights until I can get up to speed.

Overall, even besides our "vegan" experience, this resort was absolutely incredible. The view from our room of the volcano was so beautiful and the rooms themselves are well appointed and spacious. I can't say enough wonderful things about The Springs.

This is our second time at The Springs resort and it was just as amazing as our first stay. From the moment you arrive you feel pampered. The staff is very professional and very gracious. The rooms are amazing, and extremely comfortable. The views of the volcano are second to none, as it is perfectly framed through your room window no matter what floor. The cleanliness of the rooms is really top notch. Our kids ages 3 and 6, love everything about The Springs, they love exploring all the pools, the swim up bar, waffles at breakfast, the water slide, the cat sanctuary, the game room, and the housekeeping towel animals, which are better than Disney! The staff is always very friendly and attentive with our kids. Our three year old had her first manicure and she was treated like a princess. For adults it is a great place to get away and enjoy some great soaking tubs and eat some good food. We are already looking forward to our next stay, we can't wait to return!
