“Room with a Volcano View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

With a view up the slope of the dormant Arenal volcano, this hotel is a relaxing oasis where you can sit on your balcony listening to the water falls in the pool area and the birds singing in the trees. The pool area has several sections and grottoes, including a swim-up bar, that are fed with thermally heated water. The only disappointment was the hot tubs didn’t have working jets.

The hotel is clean and modern with an open-air dining area. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast and dinner we had at this location. On the top floor, there is a lounge with a nice view of the volcano. There are times when the top of the volcano is hidden by clouds. We got some good pictures shortly after 6 a.m. when the clouds lifted and we could see clear to the top. Bring your binoculars and watch the birds and iguanas in the trees.

The Hotel Royal Corin is about a $10 cab ride from the town of Fortuna where you can find shops and restaurants.

One word....BEAUTIFUL! We felt so pampered here! We went swimming in one of their many hot spring pools, enjoyed a view of the volcano from our room, ate exceptional food, and was well taken care of by staff. We stayed at six different hotels throughout Costa Rica, and this was hands-down the finest of them all!

The Royal Corin Hotel and Spa is definitely one of the most luxurious and amazing hotels I have ever stayed in. The suite rooms come with their own lounge, all round patio and jacuzzi bath for two with a TV. The hotel itself is spectacular and has a breathtaking view of the volcano. I especially enjoyed the variety of hot pools nestled around the pool area. It is only few
miles away from the Arenal Volcano National Park, the town of La Fortuna and the
many excursions. The highlight of our stay, was the unbelievably delicious meals prepared at the hotel restaurant. Incredibly tasty with interesting flavors and artistic presentations that rival any of the well-known restaurants.
Tip of the trip : you have to try the chocolate lava dessert - incredible!

Overall good experience--clean, excellent pool area, good views of the volcano from all the rooms (although I never saw the whole thing due to the weather). However, this hotel is a lot like any hotel in America, which is not what I was looking for while in Costa Rica. No one would speak Spanish, even if you started speaking Spanish to them--everyone spoke English (I realize this may be a bonus for most people). The breakfasts were a standard mix of typical American hotel breakfast foods and European breakfasts, with a smattering of typical tica breakfast foods.

I never ate the food, aside from breakfast, so I can't comment.

This was a great hotel. The pool area is amazing. It's within walking distance to the hot springs and ecoglide zipline. We were very pleased with the standard room, which was completely updated with a modern bathroom and shower.

My girlfriend and I just got back from a week in Costa Rica, part of which we stayed at the Royal Corin. After a few hours of driving our rented 4WD Jimmy through the curvy but surprisingly well-paved roads from San Jose, we were greeted with some much-appreciated fresh fruit drinks and a delightful and attentive staff. The lobby is open-air and has a very luxury-resort-like feel to it... well furnished and classy. Within minutes we were in our volcano-view room (they all are) and standing on our balcony looking out over the thermal-heated pool area and up at Arenal Volcano. We had a very comfortable, clean, and modern Standard room (304) with a fantastic bathroom that included an incredible rain shower with lights, radio, multiple jets – definitely an added perk. There are 3 main pools when you first enter the pool area, all heated – so don’t expect a cool, brisk, refreshing dip in the pool – use the outdoor shower post near the bar or the one back in your room for that. Actually, it would be nice to have at least one of the pools non-thermally-heated for when you want a refreshing dip, but really - what would you expect from a thermally-heated pools resort? Anyway, there are also 4 other smaller Jacuzzi pools behind the bar area that you can make your way through – all of which are the same, 104F-ish temperature. There also seemed to be a sauna in the farthest back area of the pool zone up over a small bridge and by some waterfalls, but it wasn’t well-lit and seemed rather creepy and uninviting… so we never ventured in. Maybe some glass doors and better lighting or something to make that area more enticing. The included buffet breakfast each morning was fantastic considering it was free (really though - great pastries, fruit, and a variety of egg and other dishes). We rather liked the soft background tunes that play throughout various parts of the hotel and during breakfast - everything from Sinatra to Whitney Houston to Marvin Gaye and Spanish music I wasn't familiar with. While the food prices at the pool bar were a little high, that food was fine as well. We never ate dinner at the hotel and opted for dining in Fortuna instead – since the Royal Corin is much closer to Fortuna than Tabacon and many of the other hotels/resorts of the area. It’s almost directly across from Baldi Springs though – in case you want to walk across the street & pay for the larger thermal pools experience. We didn't take advantage of the Royal Corin's spa while we were there unfortunately - so can't comment on that. We liked the smaller boutique feel of the Royal Corin, the great staff (the gardener gave us lettuce to feed Valentina, a resident iguana), the amazing view regardless of which room you got, and even the rather deserted Lava Bar upstairs. We thought that maybe promoting the happy hour special at the downstairs lobby bar would be a better draw than the Lava Bar, and instead convert the Lava Bar into the breakfast area or a honeymoon suite or something, but hey – just random thoughts. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and we would definitely recommend it as a great place to stay in the Fortuna/Arenal area.

Room Tip: It seems that all rooms would have a great volcano view... ours did.

When we arrived to the hotel we were speechless! It was so beautiful! When they found out it was our honeymoon they upgraded us to a suite for no extra charge! The room was amazing! Every day there was some surprise in our room; Cheese trays, wine, deserts, etc. The breakfast was delicious and they had a wide variety of things to pick from. We had a perfect view of the volcano and the town of La Fortuna was great! We will be staying here again on our next visit!!
