“Wonderful!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of june. I had read the reviews and this place lives up to them. The owners are wonderful, nice, honest people. The location was great. I still crave their breakfast. It was amazing and for $6 a person you can not beat it. The rooms were simple but very clean. They have a/c with was great. The wifi there was the best i had in all the places we went in costa rica. Super fast and always connected. Which made contacting home very easy. I enjoyed sitting on the back porch watching the horses everyday. Simply relaxing. And for $55 a night this place is a steal. 5 stars all around! Thank you so much for inviting us into your home! I hope the puppys that i enjoyed playing with are still doing good!! You guys were the best!!!!!!!! The Yaldas

This feels more like a bed and breakfast in that you are treated more like a visiting member of the family as opposed to being just a guest. The other difference is that the price of breakfast is not inclusive of the nightly rate but the extra cost is minimal and the food delicious. If I have any comment it is that I would have enjoyed a small coffee pot in the room since there is no cafe or "soda" nearby. Because I rise very early by 6:00 am. I was driving into town each morning for a cup of coffee. Otherwise, the location of the hotel is excellent. It is very close to the city but far enough away that you lose the noise and hustle-bustle when you're ready for a quiet evening.
I highly recommend this establishment.

We stayed at the Hotel Cerro Azul from July 18-21st with our two kids (8 and 15). We had a wonderful time at the hotel. They treated us like family and was there to answer any question or concerns we had. Our cabin was very spacious and the beds very comfortable. The cabin was close to town but just far away to be very quiet. Once you close the front door and open the back door, it is like being in another world. We also walked down to river and the kids had a great time playing in the river. We also opted for the breakfast and it was great. Again it was like family. We will definitely come back.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon touring around Costa Rica including a stop a Cerro Azul. While I wasn’t sure what to make of a destination where I couldn’t just sleep on the beach all day, I quickly fell in love with La Fortuna and Cerro Azul!

Location: Cerro Azul is on what seems to be a newly developing street just outside of town, in route to the waterfall. While it is not in the city center, being in a somewhat remote location, with a view of the volcano, nestled a 5 minute walk from grocery stores and restaurants and a 30 minute walk from La Fortuna Waterfall turned out to be perfect. Once we were in town we were amazed at the great vibe the town center gave off. A lot of action, restaurants, and people walking through the park.

Rooms: The cabins are VERY clean and spacious. I have to imagine they were built fairly recently and maintained regularly. The room had two queen beds (one of which became our makeshift closet), a mini-fridge, the bathrooms were large, and the water was hot. What more could you ask for. Plus, the private back deck looked over a very rustic landscape, and we actually had a few horses walk right up to us at one point (surely not wild horses...but still pretty cool!)

Service: I can’t possible overstate how much we loved Alvero! From the moment we arrived he was intent on doing nothing but making our stay great. My wife and I both speak so-so Spanish (..her's is much better than mine), and he upon telling him I preferred to practice my Spanish he insisted we have detailed conversations about our plans for each day, even if it took so long for me to say it in Spanish when he could have understood my English perfectly. Alvero, his family and staff alone make a visit to Cerro Azul worth it.

Overall: If you want to visit Arenal, you have to stay at Cerro Azul!

My husband surprised us with this spot, and it was so cute we kept oooing and awwwwing. He, my daughter, and I stayed in one cabin; my mom and dad in another. We walked across the street to have breakfast on the porch of the owner's home each morning. The bathrooms were quite large with space to spread out our stuff (nice when traveling). We each had a front porch and back porch. AC worked adequately; the area is quite humid in June! Because the staff lives nearby, they were available to answer our questions day and night; we had an issue with our car, and they helped u s read the spanish-language owner's manual. Other words to describe: clean, near wildlife (iguana, hummingbirds, horses, puppies), great view; fridge; micro; lots of shelves; near-enough to town (don't follow GPS); worth staying.

This was a nice place to stay around Fortuna. It's a little outside the town towards the waterfall which made it quiet and peaceful. The cabin was small but clean and air conditioned with cute little porches. The cabins have a great view of the volcano right from the porches.

The best part of this place is the staff. They were extremely helpful getting information, making reservations, and making recommendations. The breakfast was also delicious (and a ton of food).

I would definitely recommend staying here.

The pictures do not do this place justice. The accommodation is a cute "cabin" with both a front and back porch. There are horses roaming around, and Cerro Azul is located on the same road as a waterfall that you can swim in. We were fortunate to have great weather despite it being the rainy season, and could see the volcano well. The owners were helpful in directing us to great "sodas," which are small restaurants selling local food.
