“Great place to arrive and depart San Jose”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2007

This place is great! It is entirely family-run. Mom does the cooking, Dad keeps the grounds spotless, and the three sons (who all speak fluent English) will help you with all of your travel needs. The place is only ten minutes from the airport, making it extremely handy for arriving in San Jose or a night-before-departure stay. The rooms were clean, the grounds lovely, the gated compound felt very safe, and the price as low as we could find anywhere near. The guys helped us with our rental car and got our tickets for the Tico Train, plus took us to the local (abandoned!) station and picked us up when we called for a ride back after dark. They are all well-educated, knowledgable, and super nice. Their main concern is making sure your stay is a good one. We stayed two nights when we arrived and booked another night before our departure, all of which worked out great. We HIGHLY recommend the Robledal for this purpose. We can't say enough nice things about this family!

We were blessed to have found this great hotel!! The family that owns this hotel are really pleasant and very kind. It is nice to see the family circle still exists! It is only 10 mins from the airport which is handy when your return flight is early in the morning like ours was. We arrived around 8pm and had nothing booked (not recommended during the high season!). The night before we looked on Trip Advisor and came across this place and thought we would try it. We were lucky enough that they had room and we stayed in the newly renovated/ built room. It had a great shower, air conditioning, TV and was a really clean room. I think the best (or added bonus) is their son Emmanuel. He was excellent in helping us plan our stay. He showed us things that the average traveller would not see and told us about things that we shouldn't miss. With his advise we were able to go from the East coast right through to the West Coast. We were even able to hire Emmanuel to travel with us in some parts but it really felt like we were traveling with a friend instead. He even tried teaching us some Spanish!
We had a wonderful trip in Costa Rica and we owe alot of the ease in planning and great adventures to this family. I would highly suggest staying here for your stay in Costa Rica!
Pura Vida!

My husband and I were fortunate to have this hotel recommended by the car rental agency at Juan Santamaria Airport. We were too tired to drive to our destination and needed a place to stay where we could rest after a long day of travel.

The proprietors were friendly and welcoming. The room was very comfortable and spacious with A/C, cable TV and windows to the courtyard.

The meals were deliciously prepared, fresh vegetables and fruit, homemade bread and meat of choice. The hotel also served beer (Imperial) and wine as desired.

The hotel is family owned and operated. The sons drove us to and from the airport and car rental agency. They tipped us off to better roads for travelling during our stay.

We recommend this place to anyone who requires the simple comforts of life. We also plan to stay here again on our return trip.

I used their free transportation to & from SJO which was free and quite the convenience! When I arrived at the hotel a young man checked me in and gave me one of the rooms on the 2nd floor with a large picture window. The young man had a great personality and was very friendly, spoke great English. I went to my room and found it simple and clean. The room contained a double bed and a tv. It did not have any chairs, etc. but was fine for me who was traveling alone and needed a clean but neat place to stay. The shower was clean with nice hot water and good pressure. Soap and towels were already laid out. However, bring a travel bottle of shampoo with you if you stay as those little necessities were not there.
I ate breakfast the next morning which was included. It consisted of a small buffet of their own fresh fruit juices, beans, plantains, and other breakfast items- which the family cooks in the kitchen and serves.
A family owns and runs the hotel and they are very hospitable. I even got a manicure and pedicure by a yound female for $15.
The grounds are manicured and simple. Very comfortable stay.

This family driven hotel is the friendliest hotel I have ever stay at. Very clean room and no bugs/insects at all inside.

We were picked up late Sunday evening at the airport by the hotel owner and were in our room 20 minutes later.

We ask for possibilities to get some dinner in the area, they were calling to different pizza deliveries. But at Easter time and late evening it was hard to find any food. This was no problem, the owner’s wife served us a delicious chicken meal made from the hotel kitchen :-)

When planes departure from SJO, they went right over the hotel. I am not sure if the airport was closed at night, but we both slept very well. No problem at all.

Broadband internet available at the reception.

The next day we ask for were to spent 6 hours in this San Jose area. We had some whishes for the day and the son of the hotel owner went with us all day with his car. Amazing day at a butterfly farm, a zoo and a coffee farm/plant (Doka Estate).

Best regards

My wife and I spent our first night in CR in this hotel. We chose the more expensive room in the new building. We paid USD 67 including taxes. The price included transportation from/to the airport and breakfast. The food was good (fresh fruit, bread, eggs, coffee). The neighborhood is rather poor, but the Robledal property is very pretty: nice buildings, many flowers and trees.

Due to the proximity to the ariport (west of SJO, in the flight path), airplane noise can be a nuisance to some travelers.

  • Liked — Clean, friendly staff, good price
  • Disliked — Airplane noise in the morning
  • Tips/Secrets — Write down the phone number; you need to contact Robledal when you arrive to send the van to pick you up
