“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

Beautiful hotel with great security. Appreciated that you have to use room key in elevator to get to floors and services meaning strangers can't just come in and wander around. Staff was great and helpful. However, refrigerator in two rooms did not work. Staff wrote sweet note about having a great stay, but then neglects to leave coffee, milk and sugar. Spend time tending to duties and not writing cute little notes. Bottles of water in room you have to pay for- $3-5 per bottle. Really? Are you kidding me? Should be part of room fee, not an extra. Food in restaurant was outrageously expensive and there are no alternatives in area, so your option is to pay $7 for a piece of toast and fruit for breakfast, $15 for eggs, or go hungry.
General opinion--clean and safe but you have to pay too much extra for basic items. Would not stay again nor recommend. More for executives on an expense account, not for general public.

Room Tip: Close to Walmart but nothing else. Not going to San Jose to shop at Walmart! Must take a cab for eve...

Good value newer hotel. We had an early morning flight and need a place to crash. Very clean and new. Great service and freindly staff. Shuttle was prompt and a nice driver. Next to Walmart 2 minutes from the airport.

Room Tip: They will price match.

Dear Guest:
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, I'm glad to know that you were surprised by the good value we are able to offer to our visitors, considering this is the newest property in Costa Rica and considering all the features that our building has. Building was built under LEED regulations and also offers the energy saving cooling system for the building. We don't have the AC wall units that most of the hotels in town have, therefore doesn't make noise and you will be able to recover energy to enjoy either your trip back home or the adventures that Costa Rica offers to visitors. Our privileged location, the closest hotel to the SJO Airport, will surprise you since construction was made to avoid noise from the street and the Airport.
Later this year we will be able to offer to our visitors a convenient Plaza across the street featuring several restaurant options and stores. I'm looking forward for your next visit to Costa Rica and if by any chance you need something from our hotel don't hesitate to let me know at marco.quinteros@courtyard.com

Stayed here our last night in Costa Rica, after ten days at/near Playa Hermosa and Jaco. The hotel was just one year old the day/night of our stay.......just like brand new in our opinion. Great service and attention from the door staff to the front desk and the restaurant staff. We arrived via a driver, so had no car to drive anywhere for dinner, but found enough tasty options for all members of the families.......kids, parents, grandparents. Everything was very clean, very modern (see other reviews for some of the "green" details). Arrangements were easily made for the early morning shuttle to the airport, and everything ran on time. We did not use the pool or outside patio (on 2nd floor). Definitely recommend it!

Room Tip: There are not necessarily "rooms with a view" here, as the hotel is located in a mostly co...

Dear Guest:
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with visitors in Costa Rica or planning to visit Costa Rica. I'm glad to know that you were able to visit Playa Hermosa and Jaco hope you also had the opportunity to visit Manuel Antonio, is a must, or this will be the perfect excuse to plan a new trip to Costa Rica to include Poas Volcano just 45 min away from our hotel; La Paz Water falls; Arenal volcano among many other options to enjoy Costa Rica.
I appreciated your feedback and recognition for our Front Desk, housekeeping and Restaurant staff. Next time you are planning to visit Costa Rica don’t worry about the arrival time we are including 24 hours restaurant service for your convenience or our Market with different options including food and beverages.
As mentioned above our swimming pool when weather conditions are favorable is something that every visitor should try after a morning workout, in fact from the gym you will see our small pool inviting you to enjoy the day.
Looking forward to see you again, PURA VIDA ;)

This hotel is perfectly located when flying into or out of SJO. They offer a free shuttle service (runs every half hour) to/from the airport. The hotel is absolutely brand new, with features such as Wifi, tap-card readers (no swiping to get into room), card readers in the elevators, and even a card holster in the rooms in order to activate the A/C system (green / energy saving feature).

The price we got for the room was ok considering off season and points, but the only reason I marked 1 point off was because of the food prices down stairs. Overcharged for a Casado and other meals, but thankfully there is a Wal-Mart right next door (walkable) that you can get almost anything at.

Otherwise, hotel is super clean, new, friendly, and convenient.

Dear Guest:
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with visitors in Costa Rica or planning to visit Costa Rica. You were kind to recognize our main priority and contribution to our planet, by offering LEED features as the AC which is the centralized and saves energy. This is a great feature compared with most of the hotels in town because they are using wall units making a lot of noise. We also offer a lot of food options at a reasonable price considering processes and certifications that our vendors have in compliance with quality and standards. Our restaurant prices go from: $7,00 USD soups; $8,00 salads and $11,00 dollars main course options. We are in the process to update our Menu to expand local and international options as well as review prices, it is important to highlight that our prices include 10% service charge and 13% government taxes, extra gratuities are optional and not mandatory.

We traveled to Costa Rica for a week in July (2013). Our flight from the states arrived late on the first day so we didn't want to drive to Arenal in the dark...so we stayed at the Courtyard Marriott. It was great! The hotel looks really new, clean, modern, etc. We had dinner and drinks at the bar since we were tired and didn't want to go out exploring late at night. Breakfast was great (you can choose from buffet, continental, or a la carte sandwiches). They also have a mini-market in the lobby where you can buy water, sodas, beers and take to your room. Internet is free of charge and there's a safe in the room. Overall great experience and would definitely stay there again when traveling in and out of SJO!

This hotel is new and right now the prices are very low. The rooms are clean and everything's looks very nice. There's also free wifi.

I think there needs to be better communication about the free shuttles and how to take the shuttle from the airport to the hotel. We waited for almost an hour until someone helped us and called the shuttle. We were told the shuttle leaves the hotel every 30 minutes and that it picks you up from the airport everything 30 minutes.

Other than that it was fine. You can take the hotel shuttle to the airport and then hop on a bus to San Jose for 530 colones one way. We went to a nice restaurant and bakarey in China town. The bakery is very inexpensive.

Dear Guest:
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with visitors in Costa Rica or planning to visit Costa Rica. Appreciate your recognition regarding value for price paid; in fact we do have best available rate promotions until the end of September. We are also working diligently with a restaurant at the Airport to use their facilities and phone to request and coordinate our shuttle pick up service; considering that our Airport facilities does not offer an area to pick up our customers, the name of the restaurant is MALINCHE opened until 7:00 pm and later their convenience store at the main exit door, hope we can offer this option in your next trip to Costa Rica. Certainly your recommendation to use the shuttle to reach the San Jose bus station at the Airport is a great option that will help other visitors to take advantage of the service bus.

We travelled as a family of 6 and stayed in 2 rooms just for one night. The main hotel we booked for our vacation was in a remite area in Arenal volcano park which would have taken us 4 hours and we did not want to travel late night from the airport. As it is an airport hotel we did not expect much but I must say that the hotel did not disappoint us at all in terms of service and quality. As I am a Marriott member, I asked for a free upgrade. But since there were no rooms available for an upgrade, the receptionist was very kind to make rate much lower applying some code for one of the rooms. Thus we got to save some money. The breakfast service in the morning included buffet or ala carte service both of which were inexpensive. The rooms were quiet and we had a nice rest. We will stay here again.

Dear guest:

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us is great to know that our staff was flexible to satisfy your needs regarding the upgrade request. Beginning your visit in Costa Rica visiting the Arenal Volcano was a great choice considering that our location has easy access to the road leading to Arenal and La Fortuna, Costa Rica is place full of different options, Our suggestion for your next trip to Costa Rica is to visit Poas Volcano which is the largest crater in the world and 45 min away from our hotel in addition to La Paz Waterfalls and Manuel Antonio National Park.
Thank you for your comments about our breakfast service; our restaurant is open 24 hours, for all those who arrive late and the next morning should start early. The breakfast buffet starts at 04:00 and so does our shuttle service to the airport, if you are in a hurry don’t forget that we offer items to go as well.
Hope you visit us soon; we are going to be so pleased to have you here with us again.
