This was a great place to spend the night after flying into San Jose late. We took a cab there ($15), and it just took a little while. Nice, simple room, with a good breakfast the next morning. They had a pool, but we hit the road to Rincon de la Vieja.

Room Tip: all rooms are fine.

We stayed here for two nights at the start of our one month trip around Costa Rica as it was close to the airport yet far enough from the hustle of San Jose. All I can say is what a great place to start it all off, lovely garden setting, peaceful, great food and service. As this was the start of our honeymoon we even had a bottle of fizz in our room chilled!! Would definitely recommend it.

We booked this hotel for one night because it was fairly close to the airport. We had never been been to Costa Rica before, so after an exciting drive through the city we were very relieved to find the hotel was a quiet place away from the hustle-and-bustle of the city.

While making our reservations I mentioned that we planned to rent a car. The hotel offered to arrange our car rental and airport pick-up for no additional charge. We declined, but looking back it would have been much easier if we had accepted the offer. Our rental agency turned out to be 10 minutes from the airport.

All of the staff was very friendly and helpful during our stay. The property was clean and well-maintained. We had four adults, so we stayed comfortably in a quad-room with a double bed and a bunk bed. The only complaint I have is that our room was close to the entrance. The gate at the entrance locks at night and people kept honking to get someone to come open the gate.

Breakfast was delicious, buffet-style with fresh fruit, eggs, meats, breads, juice, milk, and (of course) coffee. For supper we had walked to the restaurant up the street. The gentleman that took our order did not speak English, but he had a great sense of humor and we managed to get everything we wanted. And it was delicious!

Overall, I would definitely stay here again for business in the city or as an "airport hotel."

Probably the most important thing a guest can say to us is that they would definitely come back and stay with us! With all the other choices available, this recognition is so very important to us and lets us know that we are getting it right!
Vehicle rental in Costa Rica can be a challenge - even for us. If you return in the future, we would be happy to assist you in this endeavor.
We are aware of the periodic noise of the front gate for the cabin nearest to it. We are planning to replace the tropical style louvered windows in that cabin with sealing ones to make it more sound resistant.
Thank you for letting us know about the helpfulness of our staff and that you enjoyed the breakfast and our overall hotel location!

We booked our first night in Costa Rica at this hotel.
The grounds are beautiful and well groomed.
Amanda greeted us, she was so sweet and helpful. I had a million questions, she made phone calls for me and went out of her way for us.
At 3am at night I got up and asked the night concierge, who was a lovely and very courteous young man, to get me some water, which he promptly did.
Robert, the manager, told me next morning, that both of those employees were new and still on probation. Congratulations on finding such wonderful people to work for you, Robert!

Haha! The title to your review sparked off a friendly competition between two of my employees.... Now my cook is standing around Reception hoping to get a similar comment from a guest!!! Actually she is very busy organizing the successful start of our new Restaurante "La Rosa".
It is of course very satisfying as the hotel Owner, that our extensive training programs at La Rosa are bearing fruit. One of our biggest challenges is to take new employees and train them in understanding the needs of guests from over 120 countries - none of which are the same! We see this at La Rosa as a great opportunity to not only improve our guest's experience, but also to be able to give back to our employees in the form of education - education that they do not receive in the public system in Costa Rica.
Both employees are aware and proud of receiving your review about them! We have also told our gardener as well as he works very hard but often is quite solitary and out of the spotlight!
We are glad you enjoyed our hospitality and we hope to see you back in Costa Rica again soon!

I stayed 3 nights there before my flight back to Europe and I felt just great.
The room was very nice (even though I had a standard one), a lot of place, comfy beds.
The staff was very nice and smily and always ready to serve.

The pool area and garden is gorgeous!

The location is also great (next to Poas Volcano, airport) with a few small restaurants just outside.

They even packed me a breakfast for my last day as I was leaving very early to catch my plane!

Only thing I see they could ameliorate is the breakfast quality (an additionnal special like pancakes / omelette ) would be well appreciated.

We put a lot of effort into our gardens and pool so we are very happy to see our guests get enjoyment from them.
We will ensure that our staff get to see your review as they take great pride in guest comments about their services or areas of responsibility!
Regarding breakfast, we are slowing increasing our options and on quiet days sometimes we offer omelets for guests. Unfortunately we have not figured out a way of doing this on many of our busier days. We are considering adding the local favorite of Gallo Pinto to the meal though to compliment our eggs and cheese etc...
You are very welcome for your breakfast to go! No reason to starve at the airport!

We were looking for someplace close to the airport for the first and last night of the trip, but that was also not a chain hotel. This place was great. Rooms were nice, and comfortable for me and my family. We got a family suite, which was more than enough room for 4 people to sleep with privacy. The grounds were lovely. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a place near the airport, but if you are looking for an extended stay, get out and see the country and stay other places too. Nothing to do with the hotel, but the San Jose area is the least beautiful thing you will see.

The hotel arranged travel to and from the airport, and staff were very friendly and helpful with any questions or issues we encountered. My only complaint with the hotel is that the coffee for breakfast was too weak for my taste. I would definitly use this hotel again.

Also Around the corner from the hotel on the mainstreet is a little resturaunt called chevichitos. Good typcial food for a great price.

We agree! La Rosa is situated 7 km west of the International Airport so as to give guests a relaxing, peaceful and beautiful alternative to San Jose. Also San Jose is so far from the airport - a fact that surprises many arriving guests who have hotels booked there.
Sorry about the coffee! In future, just let us know you prefer strong coffee, rocket fuel or whatever your preference is and we can make it specially for you! We do this as a matter of routine for our guests if they ask. We have chosen the strength of the coffee to best compliment both the regional flavours of the locally grown coffee and also to appeal to the greatest cross section of our guest preferences.
Chery's is indeed a good location for guests looking for a quick meal. Now, since your stay, we have opened Restaurante La Rosa as well, and are offering both Local and Italian dishes. We wish to offer guests greater alternatives to having to go out of the hotel for all their meals. So far it has been very successful and we have high hopes for it this season!
Both Family Suites have undergone significant modernization upgrades since your stay so now they are even better! We found that the furnishings were getting a little out of fashion so we have upgraded curtains, bedding and furniture. Shortly we will be upgrading some of the wall artwork - of course, supporting local artists as much as possible!

We booked online after reading the reviews thought trip advisor, so felt it was important to leave a review also!
Te hotel is quaint, beautiful gardens and a nice location. I found the city to be crazy so it was nice to escape back to our little home. There wasn't any a/c in our suite but the fan kept it cool enough .
The 2 main pluses for this hotel are the staff....who were SO helpful and pleasant, and the delish breakfast ( with the banana bread)
We will return on our way back to the airport!

Room Tip: Some rooms have a/ c, if you need it better book it in advance.

Since you stayed in Suite 2, it has actually undergone a significant upgrade and fashion modernization. This was a direct response to past guest comments both at the hotel and online in forums such as this one. Now there are brand new, custom made beautiful curtains, all newly reupholstered furniture, upgraded bedding and soon, better locally made artwork for the walls.
We are not planning to install air conditioning to the Suites this year but probably we will next year when we get sufficient power from the local electrical utility to do so.
