“Perfect experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2012

I stayed at Hotel La Rosa de America in March, and everything about my visit was excellent. I made my reservation online, and Robert, the owner of La Rosa, emailed me personally to confirm the booking, which was much appreciated. When I arrived, everyone at the hotel was pleasant, friendly and helpful. The grounds were beautiful, the pool was immaculate, and my room was cozy and comfortable - hot water was great! Breakfast was lovely, and the rates are totally reasonable.

Staff at the front desk were most helpful with airport shuttle arrangements, Robert was more than accommodating, and the groundskeeper (Julio, I believe) was most pleasant and polite :) I was travelling alone, so it was particularly nice to feel so welcome and 'at home.' It made for an all-around perfect experience.

I stayed for one night before travelling to Carate. I had originally booked myself into a fancy hotel in downtown San Jose on the night that I returned from Carate, but after my initial experience at La Rosa, I cancelled my downtown reservation and opted to spend my last night in Costa Rica here, and I'm glad I did. I look forward to visiting again someday soon. Thanks for a great experience!

You are very welcome! Staying in contact with you during the booking process was not a problem! We appreciate your loyalty to us as well - we were not aware that you were planning to stay at a different hotel on your return to the Central Valley. We will pass on to Julio (actually our maintenance fellow - Luis is our groundskeeper) your comments about his service. Our employees very much appreciate the recognition and as a Hotel, we value this feedback greatly.
We certainly hope that you can return soon to Costa Rica! It is a beautiful country and we are glad to have been a part of your trip!

As with many others we used la Rosa for our in and out stopovers. Set in the midst of San Juan suburbia, it is a delightful setting with all the basics that you require. The rooms were adequate but some better than others. We found cabin 2 very well equipped. The key strength of this establishment is it's staff, the service levels from manager Griska, night porter Victor and even the new French Canadian receptionist (sorry I missed your name) were outstanding. Breakfast is included and good, although I have to say somewhat marred on our first visit by a Canadian (the owner?), speaking very loudly on his cellphone throughout our meal. We would recommend La Rosa and suggest others are braver than us and speak up if they require peace and quiet during their breakfast.

Thank you for your review and apologies for taking so long to respond! We have been busy in room and website upgrades during the first half of the shoulder season. We appreciate your acknowledgement of our staff's efforts to provide excellent service for our guests. Also noted is your observation of the Owner talking at breakfast.. Please accept my apologies for this. It is very unusual that this occurs and I had to really think of the situation. Upon recollection, the call was long distance from a previous guest who stayed with us for over a month last Christmas and became a good friend of the hotel. Regardless, the call could have been taken in the Reception area or Hotel Office and if this disturbed you, again I apologize for the lack of consideration.
You noted that our cabins are not all equipped equally. This is true which has resulted in a different pricing scheme for our new Superior vs Standard cabins. Specifics regarding these details are now listed on our new website under Room Descriptions and we will endeavor to continue to add details as the upgrades are completed. Essentially all rooms have similar services, however our Superior rooms have both upgraded structures and furniture as well.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and please be assured that your comment about the Owner using his cell phone during breakfast has been noted!

Hello there fellow travelers!

I am the owner of a small Eco-Adventure company (Infinite Forest) based in Costa Rica, and we have had the pleasure of working with the wonderful people at Rosa de America for about three years now. We often use their hotel as a lovely sanctuary for our travelers upon arriving in Costa Rica. Whether they arrive at the airport in the morning or at night, it is a great location to quickly whisk them away to...very tranquil, and it always provides an authentic and welcoming first experience "in country". They are located only about 15-20 minutes from the airport, which is very convenient (& inexpensive in a taxi), yet one doesn't feel or hear any of the "hub-ub" one would imagine being that close to the airport. The attention to detail regarding the pool, the gardens and the cleanliness of the rooms is spectacular! The hotels we utilize when running tours become a reflection of us as a tour provider and we are very happy with the mutually beneficial relationship we have developed with La Rosa de America. All of our guests simply love the hotel...and almost more importantly...the STAFF! Grisska, (the main receptionist/manager/fix anything"er") has been wonderfully accommodating with us and our different needs/requests/issues that surface from time to time when running tours. She (& other members of the staff) always go the extra mile to make sure their guests feel comfortable, safe, secure, relaxed and well attended to. During a recent tour with some students from a school in Seattle, Grisska spent a generous amount of time helping us coordinate extra transport for one of our students who missed his flight. This was a godsend and really helped "save the day", so to speak. We needed a driver who was safe, reliable and affordable...and Grisska knew just the right fellow. ;-) Thanks again Grisska! Additionally she helped us to deliver some forgotten items left by our group members to a small town several hours away where we were doing community service work. Grisska has always been very professional, kind, warm, welcoming, knowledgable, understanding, patient and efficient. We love her and all the staff at La Rosa de America! The owner, Robert, is also a great guy who obviously takes tremendous pride in finding great people. They have built a true gem that literally feels like "home" every time we step onto the grounds....bien hecho amigos! Mango trees, ornamentals, butterflies, birds and smiling Ticos all await you when you arrive. Costa Ricans (Ticos) are famous for their hospitality and genuine love and respect for nature. La Rosa de America does a wonderful job of exemplifying all of these qualities, which really adds to the authentic nature of the place and creates the ideal experience every traveler is looking for. It's also a great place to spend the last night of your trip, before you fly home. The staff will happily arrange an early morning taxi for you (just ask the night before) if needed. It is a true pleasure to work with such professional and pleasant people every time we stay at La Rosa de America. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone.
(Secret Tip - The banana bread is to die for!)

Thanks again Robert, Grisska and everyone else! We appreciate your wonderful hospitality and look forward to sending you many more groups in the future. Mil gracias y PURA VIDA!!!

Thank you very much for such a glowing review! We very much appreciate your repeat business over the past three years and your groups are a pleasure to host! My manager is aware of your review and appreciates the recognition of her efforts. It is very gratifying to have some of the "small details" noticed and commented on!
It is important for us to receive feedback from guests and positive feedback like yours also helps us maintain and improve service and lets us know where to direct our energies and what we can identify as successful. For me I am glad to have met you a few months back as I like to get to know as many guests and tour providers as I can!
Of course, if in any of your upcoming groups you encounter anything or need assistance, just let us know and we will do our best to help! Pura Vida!

We stayed here a night before we went off for our vacation to Montezuma. We had the Suite #2 for the 5 of us and it was great. The rooms were clean, there was hot water, the pool was so nice, breakfast was great! It was an all around great place. Loved it and we are coming to stay another night before we fly out to go home.

We spent 2 nights at the beginning of our trip and 1 night at the end. We did a little research and settled on Hotel La Rosa de America, and we were glad that we did. We thought that the place that we picked to start out our trip would set the tone, and it would also complete our adventure when we left. Hotel La Rosa de America met all of our needs and then some. We needed clean, quiet, comfortable basic accommodations for two families (8 people), a pool, breakfast, near the airport. We arrived late and had arranged for transport from the airport to the hotel - no problem. We were met with a sign upon exiting the airport. After we arrived, we wanted to get supplies from the grocery, some beer, and some cash. The driver took us and even went shopping with us! The breakfast dining area is pleasant with plenty of fruit, cereal, coffee, etc. I asked for a special order for my vegan husband (gallo pinto without an egg). The cook pleasantly made it, remembered the next morning, and on our last morning 2 weeks later! The front desk staff (all fluent in English too) were very helpful in getting us a van, as our original reservation didn't work out. They also made some local calls for us, and when our credit card companies shut down our cards, assisted us in getting a calling card so that we could get it straightened out - I liken them to travel agents... The hotel is within walking distance of several restaurants (Delicias del Maiz and Fiesta del Pollo) and there is a small place just at the end of the block. The zoo is a short taxi drive away and well worth the visit. The front desk can call for a taxi, in our case two taxis, and they will arrive within 5 minutes or less. Overall, it was a great start to an end and I would recommend staying at Hotel de la Rosa.

Thank you for your recommendation of La Rosa! It was no problem at all helping you with your credit card issues and with your car reservation also! Also thank you for letting me know about the attentiveness of our cook! I was unaware that she had done this for you and it is satisfying to have such positive confirmation that the La Rosa staff are attentive and proud of their service delivery.
We are always happy to see our guests enjoy the local attractions here too. ZooAve is a very popular location and I agree that it is a great half day trip - and the Zoo has a great ethic regarding the protection, safety and housing of the birds and animals.
We are glad you found La Rosa to meet your expectations of an Airport Hotel! We hope you will return to Costa Rica soon and come visit us again!

If you're looking for an affordable place near the airport to begin or end your adventures in Costa Rica, this is it. Our room met our needs for the night (basic and clean); however, this hotel earns 4 stars because of the helpful service in assisting us with our rental vehicle and its convenience as a starting point for our Costa Rican road-trip.

Overall, if you are planning to fly into San Jose and leave the next morning driving north towards Arenal/Poas/Monteverde, this is a great place to stop for the night.

It was our pleasure to help you with your trip plans and your rental car. There is so much to do and see here - often with limited time, that some local advice can make a difference! We are glad that the rental car worked out for you as well. Sometimes getting the right vehicle here can be a bit more of a challenge than expected. We are glad you had a great trip in Costa Rica and we are glad that you considered your stay at La Rosa to be of excellent service and value!

We were pleasantly surprised by this little hotel as a way point after arriving in Costa Rica and again before flying back to the USA. It is relatively close to the airport ($15 taxi ride) and is tucked away in a quiet, residential area with a beautiful garden and pool area. The grounds and rooms are clean and comfortable. Breakfast is included and is a generous spread of fruit, eggs and banana bread. The staff is professional, friendly and helpful. Great place.
