I remember this discussion with the guest who arrived and was in need of a lot of information. We spend every breakfast with guests helping them to their next destination, getting their cars sorted out, helping with bookings to other places and generally providing from our experience of the country.

Each room/casita has a 20 page booklet packed with transportation information - airline info for 16 airlines for example, 2 private bus services and prices, car rental info for 15 car companies and a public bus schedule (which is to the best of our knowledge and covers the 20 most popular destinations in Costa Rica and includes bus stations, first departure and frequency. From our experience this room information package is the most complete of any in Costa Rica. That morning we had been very busy and I told the guest simply that we have the best information in the room booklets and that, as I didn't use the public bus, I could not do more than point them to the bus stops listed and get them a cab to get them started.

We recommend the public bus service of Costa Rica as a great and inexpensive way to get around. If you absolutely MUST be somewhere at a certain time or are travelling with kids, we advise car rentals, private bus services like Interbus or private van or taxis which can be an economical way for short and medium distances. In the high season the public bus system is pretty loaded and many guests can't afford to miss a days destination so we don't advise the bus then. Every morning and some evenings we spend a lot of time advising or assisting guests with transportation - this guest wanted more info on the public bus systems than I or my staff have or know where to get.
