5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

I have visited Xandari three times now and have never been let down. The rooms are beautiful as are the grounds. It has some of the best food I have had in Costa Rica. The hiking and the waterfalls are awesome. The staff is willing to help in any way that they can. I can't wait to return!

The Xandari spa is quite nice, and the restaurant is good, but the hotel is overrated.

There are a number of accounts about the extraordinary architecture and art. The architecture is noteworthy. Each room is designed in such a way that you can sit on the balcony and have privacy. Additionally, the bathroom is designed so that one wall is all glass, but it is also private. The ceilings have an elegant curved shape and are wood. Nice.

On the other hand, I saw very little that I would consider art. I wish they would have included a few truly good pieces of art and not slapped scatter paint all over the place in an attempt to make everything look like art. There is nothing artistic about scatter paint.

They market the property as if it has miles of trails to explore. Not really. You'll cover the whole place quite quickly, and truthfully, there's nothing special about the trails. You have to get a key from the front desk to see the orchid house and the artist studio. Don't bother. The orchid house is tiny and run down. The plants look like they need attention. There's nothing noteworthy in the so-called art studio.

I can't say enough good things about Konrad, who manages the spa. The spa is beautiful, and the people who work there are absolutely professional. Konrad and I exchanged several emails prior to our stay to arrange the schedule for me and my friend. He was gracious, accommodating, and organized. Our service was perfect. I would definitely recommend the spa.

Dear Delene…We are glad you appreciated our food, villas and spa...we are sorry you didn´t like the art and grounds since the owners placed their vision about Costa Rica in their art and architecture with so much love. There is so much to explore in the 40 acre-grounds, botanical trails, the serenity in the bamboo patches, the sound of the river jumping through the waterfalls, hydroponic vegetable garden, the sound of the birds all around. Thank you for your comments...

We have stayed at this place about one half dozen times. The massive grounds are a thing of beauty with an array of flowers and trees that make realize what a paradise Costa Rica is. We were one of the first guests and have watched it grow and change in a positive way over the years. The rooms are spacious and equally as beautiful and the grounds. We try to stay there at least once every time we come to Costa Rica. The staff make you feel like family.

My family recently (end of March) stayed at Xandari for two nights, once in between our stay in the central valley and heading to guanacaste and the day before our flight out. We actually were lamenting the fact that we didn't just enjoy our last few days there because it is very beautiful & peaceful. It really would make for a great base for seeing sites of the Central Valley (Poas Volcano, etc). The staff is wonderful and the food is excellent too. I loved the art that the owner herself made and is throughout the property and rooms. Our daughter really enjoyed the pools, the infinity pool is exceptional, perfect temperature with views towards the mountains and over the large property. There's great hiking trails on the property that wind down to 3 different waterfalls. Of note, we encountered a large snake above us as we were trekking along (not entirely sure if it was venomous or not), it is the jungle to definitely something to be aware of! The individual villa was large, comfortable and also with phenomenal views from the bedroom, sitting room and veranda. Really impressive for the price! It's clear that the staff and owners really take pride in their property. Highly recommend!

Room Tip: We stayed in 2 different rooms, both were gorgeous...I believe all rooms are situated so that views...

This resort has individual villas on 40 acres; the views of the valley from the rooms and the restaurant are outstanding. The restaurant has excellent food for a reasonable price. The property has trails where local plants and birds can be observed, and guided tours of the property are available.

We started and ended our recent visit to Costa Rica, at this beautiful resort. Food and service was excellent. The first night our room overlooked the valley below and it was one of the most beautiful sites I've ever seen. Fireworks could be seen in the distance, both nights, and the twinkling lights below were amazing. The room was awesome, beautiful decorated, it was the best start, and ending to a great trip. We did hike thru the gardens and to the waterfalls on the property, there was more to see, but we just ran out of time. Service in the dining room was excellent.

Room Tip: Favorite villa was #4, but #3 was very nice also, just a better view of the city from #4.

Xandari, what can I say, pure vida, from being greeted on arrival to being waved off when we left, it was pure magic. The funky colours and artwork, the huge rooms with big terraces, outstanding views over Alajuela. Gardens full of beautiful flowers and plants, perfect climate.
Food excellent, many thanks to Diana and Alex who treated us like friends rather than guests, it was a wonderful start to the holiday.
