“A place of peace and beuty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

We have stayed at this place about one half dozen times. The massive grounds are a thing of beauty with an array of flowers and trees that make realize what a paradise Costa Rica is. We were one of the first guests and have watched it grow and change in a positive way over the years. The rooms are spacious and equally as beautiful and the grounds. We try to stay there at least once every time we come to Costa Rica. The staff make you feel like family.

My family recently (end of March) stayed at Xandari for two nights, once in between our stay in the central valley and heading to guanacaste and the day before our flight out. We actually were lamenting the fact that we didn't just enjoy our last few days there because it is very beautiful & peaceful. It really would make for a great base for seeing sites of the Central Valley (Poas Volcano, etc). The staff is wonderful and the food is excellent too. I loved the art that the owner herself made and is throughout the property and rooms. Our daughter really enjoyed the pools, the infinity pool is exceptional, perfect temperature with views towards the mountains and over the large property. There's great hiking trails on the property that wind down to 3 different waterfalls. Of note, we encountered a large snake above us as we were trekking along (not entirely sure if it was venomous or not), it is the jungle to definitely something to be aware of! The individual villa was large, comfortable and also with phenomenal views from the bedroom, sitting room and veranda. Really impressive for the price! It's clear that the staff and owners really take pride in their property. Highly recommend!

Room Tip: We stayed in 2 different rooms, both were gorgeous...I believe all rooms are situated so that views...

This resort has individual villas on 40 acres; the views of the valley from the rooms and the restaurant are outstanding. The restaurant has excellent food for a reasonable price. The property has trails where local plants and birds can be observed, and guided tours of the property are available.

We started and ended our recent visit to Costa Rica, at this beautiful resort. Food and service was excellent. The first night our room overlooked the valley below and it was one of the most beautiful sites I've ever seen. Fireworks could be seen in the distance, both nights, and the twinkling lights below were amazing. The room was awesome, beautiful decorated, it was the best start, and ending to a great trip. We did hike thru the gardens and to the waterfalls on the property, there was more to see, but we just ran out of time. Service in the dining room was excellent.

Room Tip: Favorite villa was #4, but #3 was very nice also, just a better view of the city from #4.

Xandari, what can I say, pure vida, from being greeted on arrival to being waved off when we left, it was pure magic. The funky colours and artwork, the huge rooms with big terraces, outstanding views over Alajuela. Gardens full of beautiful flowers and plants, perfect climate.
Food excellent, many thanks to Diana and Alex who treated us like friends rather than guests, it was a wonderful start to the holiday.

This was our last stop in Costa Rica before heading home – we stayed here one night.

Basic information:
• The first door you enter is into is a private garden area and then there’s the door to your room.
• Our room was a very large room with a king bed, a large sitting area with couch, chair and table as well as a table and two chairs to eat at.
• There is a mini refrigerator, sink, glasses and silverware.
• Breakfast, included in your room, is from 7-10 in the morning in a beautiful area overlooking Alajuella. There were many choices – fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, muffins, toast, hard boiled egg, cheese, ham, fruit juices, coffee and tea….all included. If you wanted something more, like omelets, pancakes, bacon, etc. then there was an extra charge. Our waiter was very friendly.

Pros
• This resort is beautifully landscaped and has many trails – one to a peaceful waterfall.
• The water, soft drinks, juices etc in the refrigerator are free (very nice!), as is the coffee.
• There was a large patio with chairs, table, and lounge chairs that overlooked Alajuella – very pleasant to sit out there in the evening.
• The shower had good water pressure.

Cons
• There is no tv and wifi is only in the reception area and restaurant, not in the rooms, but it was pretty fast.
• The shower ran low on hot water near the end.

Overall, a very pleasant place to stay. We would return.

Note: When we got here (on April 10), the main road to the resort was closed so we had to go around another way. You may want to check to see if it is still closed and get directions to come in the back way. We did get an email from the resort however we did not see it until after we arrived.

We LOVED our villa (two nights), so spacious and the artwork and decor are wonderful, plus it had GREAT lighting (and this is a big deal and not often found in CR). To relax on the patio and look out at the lights of the city, well, morning or night, that was great. The restaurant has wonderful views and all our meals (breakfast, one lunch, two dinners) were very very good. Grounds are beautiful, nice hikes to waterfalls. My only negative comment would be the barking dogs at night -- and I had to read many other reviews before I saw this mentioned....we were with a group so I know we were not the only ones hearing the dogs. I guess most people forgive this because it is such a lovely place. It is too bad the hotel owners/managers cannot do anything about the dogs....this was an earplugs and ambien place for us. But still we loved it, go figure!!
