“Run down disappointment”

Where do I begin? First of all, I am shocked to see how many positive reviews this place had! We stayed at a $60 a night Best Western prior to our stay at the Martino that was much cleaner! The service was slow, the "resort" looks extremely outdated and run down, and worst of all, the room we stayed in was disgusting. Here's a picture of what we saw in our hotel room.... peeling paint, scuff marks and cracks all over the walls, BLACK and also some moldy caulking in the shower, and fraying bedding and towels. Worse yet, our pillows smelled like mildew! The food at the restaurant was actually pretty good for dinner aside from the fact that they advertise their "homemade" desserts that seemed like they came straight out of a package from the freezer (my tiramisu was frozen when served to me!) The "full" breakfast consisted of bread, old fruit, and eggs (if you could track the one waiter down to order them). We decided to take a stroll on the "nature trail" behind the hotel. It was littered with trash and plastic garbage bags everywhere! Unfortunately, we stayed at the Martino on the last night of our honeymoon. Talk about killing the romance! We actually left early to hang out at the airport a few hours earlier than we had planned just to get out of our dirty hotel room. I do want to mention that the landscaping did look beautiful, but that was the only plus.

We stayed in the Martino only one night so that we could catch the plane out the next day. It looked like a place that might have been four star in the past. The front desk was very effecient. the room was average but they did not have door knobs on the door only a dead bolt which ment that if you wanted to go out to get coffee in the lobby the door opened itself while you were gone. The coffee in the lobby did not have any cups and there was no one around to help. We went to the resturaunt for a buffet breakfast and there was nothing on the buffet except a few pieces of fruit. This was two hours before the buffet was to be over. We ended up stayiing here because our first choice was booked and I did not research it well. We can find other better places to stay on the next trip.

“Reasonable value and great food”

Martino Luxury Hotel & Spa

We spent 2 nights here at the beginning of our trip and found the Martino to be clean and comfortable, the food was excellent and the staff helpful. We will definitely stay there again when we return to Costa Rica next year.

“Great way to end the holiday”

Having spent the previous night in an awful hotel in Alajuela we decided to splash out a little for our last night in Costa Rica. Even so, £30pppn still isn't expensive! We simply showed up (11am) and our room was ready with 30 minutes from our unannounced arrival. The room was vast and clean, supplied with all the goods your would have needed.

The pool was a relaxed little haven for us for a few hours before heading to the restaurant for a wonderful evening meal.

The experience was a wonderful way to complete a brilliant holiday in Costa Rica.

“Great spot for coming and going!”

Martino Luxury Hotel & Spa

Apr 19, 2008

Hotel Martino is a wonderful choice when starting or ending your trip to Costa Rica if you fly to and from San Jose. The hotel is only 10 minutes away from the airport in the right direction, away from the city of San Jose, in the "garden district", many of the other hotels are the other direction and it's not nearly as pretty or as safe. The hotel grounds and pool are very nice, the room are great, large with balconies, lots of carved wood. The food is great, homeade pasta and breads, breakfast is included and was very nice. We stayed three different nights , the second night as we were driving from one coast to the other. The service and rooms were consistant.. We felt like it was home away from home. The Booth Family
