My wife and I stayed at the El Tucano. First, we wanted to have a jungle vacation not a beach vacation and this place was perfect. It sits about 30' from the jungle. As you eat your meals you can look into the jungle and hear all the sounds of wildlife.
The grounds of the hotel are clean and well kept. The pools which hold natural water from the nearby stream were emptied and refilled 2 times during our 5 day visit which made us feel comfortable with swimming in them. There are some fun things to do onsite like mini golf, large chess and a day spa.
We hooked up with Frank on Franks tours right in the lobbly and I have to say it was the best decision we made, we spent time with him everyday. We did the zip line tour, the volcano tour's the waterfall tour and saw the bird and butterfly habitat, it was ausome. We made all the other tourists wonder how it was that we were so special as to have our own private tour guide. As they were stuck with 40 people on a bus we were stopping and having lunch, when we were hungry, at a local restaurant with great conversation. If you want to visit the beach dont stay here as it is about 5 hours to the nearest beach. if you want a jungle adventure in a romantic setting, this is your place. the staff was great and accomodating they all spoke english to a certain degree and were very pleasant to deal with.
