We didn't do the factory tour but we did shop, as we always do when visiting CR, at the store, which is huge and offers a very wide range of affordable wooden products, t-shirts, jewelry, etc. There is also an attractive-looking restaurant and other attractions. They do a great job preparing your purchases for travel.
My wife and I had quite a few hours to spend at the San Jose airport between our regional flight from Puerto Jiminez and our international flight back to New York. My wife thought we might use the time to visit Sarchi, a crafts town we had seen last year. On speaking to a cab driver, we found that the time and fare would be too much, but he turned us on to this factory tour just ten minutes from the airport.
Sr. y Sra. Ese is a factory where all kinds of wooden products for souvenirs are produced. We saw where the different kinds of wood are aged for more than a decade, and then are naturally polished, using no oils or anything other than what is in the wood itself, then the work stations where workers hand-made the pieces of wood into jewelry and other products. It may not sound like much, but it was fascinating. The tour guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable, and also pointed out to us rare birds, as the factory is in a very natural, peaceful setting, Add to this a very nice restaurant on premises, along with a garden of wooden sculptures, and it's a very pleasant way to while away a few hours. Also, there is quite a wide variety of products at the factory store, at a discount from what they would cost at other stores.
