I feel kind of bad having to write this because Mike and Maria are nice people. However, before anyone stays here they should be warned.
We 1st arrived after a full day of traveling to find that they had not remembered that we were coming. Not a big deal at all, except that we were put in a room that didn't appear to have been in regular use. It was dirty, the bedding and beds were old and ratty, there were cigarette burns on the dirty couches, and it smelled like dog. We weren't expecting the Ritz, but this was more like a flophouse. Also, the pool was not filled. Again, not that big of a deal except that we were doing some business travel with our 2 kids and part of our plan was that on the days that my husband had business to conduct, I would stay at the hotel and swim with the kids.
The owners moved us to a "better" room and on the surface it did seem better. Not nice, but better.
The beds were still ratty and pretty icky and while the linens were clean, they were of super low quality and mismatched. The kitchen was cute, but most of the drawers and cupboards had mold in them. We tried to use the coffee maker and the carafe broke because it was stuck in the maker. After cleaning up the glass and continuing to try to brew into cups, it overflowed all over because there was a pen cap shoved into some hole in the maker.
The final and worst warning is that at 4:30 in the morning, as we were leaving to get to the airport, my son started crying because he said it felt like a family of mosquitos was living in his hair. We looked and saw some bugs that we weren't sure of what they were. Maybe bedbugs? No, worse - lice! With no time to do anything or we would miss our flight, we put a cap on his head and he had to deal with it for 8 hours. He spent much of the flight crying and in misery, as well as being ashamed even though it was not his fault. Then our family spent the next 4 hours at our next hotel in Orlando de-bugging him and checking the rest of us as well as washing all of our clothing. MISERABLE! This hotel is the only place he could have gotten the lice as we had spent the previous 30 days at a cabina on the coast with almost no close contact with any other people and no one else in our family got it.
This place has great potential to be a charming and comfortable place. As I said, the owners are really nice. It just needs an upgrade in furniture/bedding/linens and some deep cleaning. Until that happens, I would warn everyone to avoid!
