First, the good:
The staff are really good people, in fact, they were the best part of our stay. Because they were so good to us, I feel guilty about writing a negative review, but travelers need to be informed. I don't understand the five-star reviews here at all.
The room was not so clean. We didn't expect anything plush by any means, but we did expect cleanliness. With just a little effort, the place could have been clean, but it just wasn't. The bathroom sink was particularly nasty to me, and I wondered when it last saw a scrub brush because it needed one.
Seeing bugs was not surprising since it's a ground-level property, but bugs were definitely an issue. I'll only discuss the ants, which were all over my bed when we got there. I cleared them off, and we went to dinner. I came back and found more ants on the bed. I cleared them off again, and eventually tried to sleep, but found myself being hypervigilant about ants on the bed, as more showed up. *Sigh.* I didn't understand why there were bugs all over my bed but not on my friend's bed a few feet away, and it made me wonder if the bed covering was inviting it somehow. With any hotel anywhere on the globe, I assume the bedspread or topmost cover is cleaned least often, but if it's inviting critters, it's time for the hotel owner to get out the detergent already.
In the morning, showers were ice cold, and we concluded that the hot water knob was there for the sake of symmetry, not function. My friend refused to shower at all, and with teeth chattering, I did one of those "essential parts only" showers, where you soap up the armpits, below the loincloth, and your tail, then jump out. Part of my haste was about the temperature, but the other part was about having the heebie jeebies about the questionable cleanliness of the place.
As for breakfast, the offerings were fresh bread, cereal and milk, and fruit. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast outside with other patrons, but were happy to high-tail it out of there and not turn back. I'm not sure how this place compares with other properties in the area, but I wouldn't book here. I really wanted to like this B&B, but didn't. If the staff weren't as likeable and kind as they were, I'd give this place one dot/star.
