Stayed here as part of a wedding party and LOVED it. The atmosphere and setting is wonderful! A nice, quaint, out of the way specialty hotel. The only negative would be that the water pressure in the shower was disappointing, but the other perks more than made up for that. Will definitely be staying here again and the staff was exceptionally nice. Thank you Jack Warner!

We've stayed there 3 times in the last 5 years. The positive: Out of the way, beautiful wooded location, nice staff, adequate & nice breakfast. This last visit we found a (dead) roach hiding under the edge of the bed skirt. I left it purposely visible so the maid could see and correct her oversight. Upon returning for our second night, It was still there! Further investigation revealed a dirty sock as well. Yuck! Furthermore my side of the bed was so "cratered"/worn out that when I complained to my wife, she offered to exchange sides with me ...and regretted doing so! The next morning I discretely brought all (including sock) to the attention of one of the owners, Ms. Susan Warner, who listened but made no immediate compensation for their shortcomings. I fully expected to receive a response in the weeks since but have not, leaving me only this outlet for my relief. Had I received a follow-up, I would have extended this further advice: The bed complement consists only of a sheet and a heavy comforter-bedspread (I have to wonder if it EVER gets washed). You have to turn down the air-conditioning down to 64 degrees to have a comfortable night's sleep. I see that the investment in a light, easily washable blanket would enhance the experience and pay for itself in short order in terms of expensive electricity/ air-conditioning in the upcoming, sure-to-be hot Alabama summer. Is there anybody in there?

Room Tip: Keep looking. Avoid. $180 per night rate should afford you better choices.

My husband and I just returned from a wedding and stayed at the Yellowhammer Inn. It is such a lovely location. Our room had shutters that set it apart from being in a hotel. The windows looked out on a beautiful wooded area. The bed was super comfy!! My husband is very picky about beds because he has had about 4 neck and back surgeries. The bed was an instant hit with him. I love the area where they have the included continental breakfast. You feel like you are going into the library and it also looks out upon the woods. The staff was super nice, too!

Well we didn't know what to expect, pictures are a little old on the website.
It's not a large hotel but very clean and the rooms are nice and large. It's a very cozy place to stay. Much better the the small chain hotels. Free continental breakfast in the morning. It's in a nice wooded area and the allow you use of the Yacht club next door for golf, work out and dining.
They shouldn't some info in the room about this! Staff was very nice.

I am a Tuscaloosa native and have had occasion to use the inn twice, most recently this past December. This Inn is dated in some respects. However, it has wood shutters that fully block all light when closed. It is set in beautiful woods. And my experience with the staff was quite positive -- they were pleasant and helpful. We were there for an event at the neighboring club and it was a delightful surprise that they were providing a golf cart shuttle service to the club.

Room Tip: End rooms are quieter and much larger.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

I grew up in Tuscaloosa and visit on occasions to visit family or to see Bama sporting events. This trip I did some research and decided to try the Yellowhammer Inn at the Yacht Club. The hotel is in a secluded area and very quiet for those wanting a break from the outside world. We stayed in the Deluxe King room with a balcony as this room would provide a sleeper sofa for our son. Cost for this room was about $230.00 including tax. For this price in Tuscaloosa, one would expect much more than the hotel offered. Beginning with the room we stayed in. It was like going back in time. The TV had to be 20 years old and barely visible from the King bed. The he rooms had real keys to unlock the doors. The hotel is advertised as a conference center, but there was no desk or work station in the room. There is no way a business person could get needed work done in the room. I travel often and all modern hotels have at a minimum a desk and extra outlets for modern electronics. One example is that we had to charge our cell phones in the bathroom as there was no place in the room to do this. There was absolutely no place to work on a laptop. The hotel did provide free Wi-Fi and we averaged about 3MBS on their router. Due to the seclusion of the hotel, we had minimum cell phone and 4G data coverage (Verizon). I was also very disappointed in the breakfast. Yellowhammer provided bagels, cereal and small store bought muffins. $230.00 per night? Come on…..
The hotel’s web page mentioned that guest were eligible to use the fitness facilities and pool at the yacht club nearby. There was no information at the hotel explaining this i.e.… hours, directions, facilities. I even asked the receptionist about this and she did not know any details. At a minimum, there should be a pamphlet in the room with information about the hotel that includes emergency information, breakfast hours, nearby restaurants, Yacht Club facilities. There was nothing.
Bottom line: Yellowhammer Inn is unique and quiet, but need lots of work to bring it up to today’s hotel standards. I can get a better room closer to Tuscaloosa for half the price.
