“Shanghai Special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2012

The Renaissance Zhongshan Park is an outstanding hotel for anyone traveling to Shanghai. Location, design, and offerings are all quite impressive. The staff is fluent in English and is most helpful. Rooms are modern, spacious, and ultra clean. The morning breakfast buffet is loaded with western and Asian specialties. You will find a retail shopping mall adjacent with an assortment of restaurants. Additionally, the beautiful Zhongshan Park is a short walk away. The ultra clean subway line makes travel to People's Square and the Bund quite easy and inexpensive.

This hotel has my strongest recommendation for visitors to the interesting city of Shanghai. Enjoy a special hotel at a special location.

Room Tip: At this hotel, every room is a great room!

“just ok but you can get better hotel for your money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2012

Although this is a 5 star hotel, the rooms certainly don't feel 5 star at all. My 2-bed regular room is really cramped. Hardly any walking space left in the room around the beds. The bathroom is also tiny. Only a shower is provided since the space in the bathroom is so small, and the door into the shower awkwardly opens in a way that makes it hard to get in and out. The view to Zhongshan Park is ok but nothing to WoW about. I find having to go up to the 25th floor lobby, then switch elevators up to the rooms a bit annoying, but the hotel is located in the top part of a commercial building.

The best part about the hotel is the convenient access to the subway, shopping mall, supermarket in the B1/B2 level of the mall, and the eateries inside and outside the mall. The staff is always polite and the lady picking up laundry daily has the best smile.

“Enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

Hotel was nicely appointed and very high in the air. Beautiful views looking over this vast city and buildings and next to Zhongshan Park. Subway is easily accessible in the bottom of the building and there is also a mall on the lower floors. Also, the subway in Shanghai is easily accessible and easy to understand for someone who doesn't ride subways often and more importantly doesn't speak the language. Nice Job Shanghai. Everything you could ever want is in this building. I do recommend the upgrade to the lounge level as the food is pretty good and the service is excellent. Not many selections but they did it nicely for when you don't want to or are able to go out. Diana and the team up there was wonderfully helpful with all of our questions and needs.

Room Tip: view towards the park is the best side. The view in general is pretty amazing regardless.

“Memory of being hot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2012

The hotel hits two of my “essential three” during travel:
1. clean shower (but not the best for the weak water pressure)
2. comfy bed

The air-conditioning was quite a problem to us for it’s not adjustable (thou there is a not-really-working control panel). It was particularly hot like oven in one of the rooms we stayed and my mom could not sleep well for the over heating on the second night. We should have asked a changing room after the first night.

Location is unbeatable with three metro lines running around and I believe most of the rooms enjoy panoramic view for the hotel locates above 25 floor. May consider stay again for the convenient location given.

Room Tip: Avoid room 3611 for it’s too small to accommodate a twin beds and it’s hot like oven as I’ve mention...

“you will get depending on what you pay for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2012

this place is a famous landmark in Shanghai, with its unique curving building and blue outline that can be seen from a fair distance at night. The Renaissance name, is well respected in the hotel franchise however I found that my stay here did not match up to expectations.

First of all, as mentioned by previous reviewers, the reception staff ARE rude! I was perplexed to find that they consider the lowest price on the tariff (1150 RMB per night) to be a 'standard' room. That kind of language is usually reserved for a 2 or 3 star and not what you expect to be hearing in a place of this quality.

Next thing i found was that the swimming pool is closed for renovation! No mention of that on the official website!

In my opinion, If you are paying out of your own pocket for a decent hotel, 1150 RMB per night should get you a fairly decent and well sized one. However the 'deluxe room' as it is called for that price was far from deluxe. Very small, room, cramped, not fit for 2 people staying for more than one or two days.

I imagine that if you are willing to pay the 2000 RMB plus prices that are quoted for rooms higher up the tariff then you may get something closer to what you actually expected. My recommendation is to try either the Pentahotel or New World which is only about 150m up the same road.
