“excellent service and luxurious rooms with great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2010

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this trendy and modern hotel, Great location for walking French Concession and local Fuxing PArk as well as walks to other parts of city if you like walking. There is a Metro close by if you don't like walking. Staff were very helpful in every way - I speak no Chinese and they helped me get a cab and were prepared to help as much as possible. Room was immaculate and spacious with a great jacuzzi bath - view of adjacent buiding not great but no big deal - other rooms probably have nicer views. Breakfast was bit expensive and maybe found menu bit hard to understand without knowing language - but food was high quality! Only negatives were the gym was pretty small and almost every day I was there, the top floor restaurant and function area was always rented out and was restricted for hotel guests. However, on the whole, I loved it and would easily go back there if I am luck enough to return to Shanghai!

We have just spent 4 nights at the Pudi. The rooms are indeed beautiful with many unexpected extras eg printer, post it notes (very useful
to mark sites, restaurants etc in your guide book), multifunction plug sockets etc. Bed was wonderful and the bathroom amazing. The bath tap is painfully slow but the Bath Master prepared the most fabulous bath for me with rose petals etc. The staff are generally very helpful especially Susan and San and their help in writing down place names in Chinese for us to show to taxi drivers was much appreciated.

My main problems with this place were:

1. Noisy nightclub on the ground floor which kept us awake even on the 7th floor

2. Expensive food, drink etc. We didn't have breakfast included so ate out as the pricing was crazy as were the mini bar prices

3. Confusing information. To phone for assistance we were told to dial 8 + floor number but this never worked. Apparently it was 8 + 4 even though we were on the 7th floor. Also the complimentary drinks between 6.30-7.30 pm on the 8th floor never seemed to happen and the time we tried to take advantage of them, the place was deserted. We booked on the understanding that Wi-Fi was included but this was not true. Only wired Internet was available in the room with Wi-Fi being on the 8th floor and in the lobby only

Having said all this, these grumbles are really only minor. The hotel is well situated, the hotel is unique and the rooms wonderful and spacious, so we would definitely go back. Oh, and we never saw any dead fish!!

This hotel is great! We had a lovely and large room with a window seat and an enormous bathroom. And the room had a printer too! The only tricky part is that the entrance is a bit difficult to find. If you take cab, make sure to have the hotel phone # handy so that the driver can call the hotel, just in case he cannot find it.

Far of the gigantism of the China, you find quietude and tranquility when you come back of the madness and the rush of the town. The hotel have a human scale, an up date and tastefully deco. The lobby is maybe a little bit disappointing but you are not staying in, leave for the floors and the suite and you will find a human charm. Not really the "boutique hotel" with the original meaning but certainly a good translation of this concept in the country of the "big"

Mrs. F-pax and I spent 5 nights at the beginning of May at the Pudi. We booked via Expedia at an excellent rate. The only disappointment was that we had not been warned about the building site next door where work commenced every day at 6 am on the dot - regardless of weekends and national holidays! if you are given a room facing the building site try and get it changed!
Having said all that the rooms are very stylish, but what is it with international interior designers who think trendy means dark! Agree with some of the earlier reviewers comments regarding the 'room' areas being very dark but the window bays are light and airy.
The bathrooms again are very well appointed with twin copper sinks etc. and a huge whirlpool bath and drench shower - just a pity the flow and pressure isn't up to it!
We found no dead fish, the staff were very helpful in gettiing us cabs etc. and would stay here again as the location is great - right in the French Concession. Don't pay the 45Yuan in the bar for a small TsinTao beer - just round the corner is an Alldays where you can buy a 600ml bottle for 4Yuan

Stayed here for three nights in April. Got a great prebooked rate on-line. In a great location close to the Bund and People's Square. Located in the sophisticated Luwan next to Fuxing park. Small very cool hotel. Great room with all the mod cons, free broadband and printer. Well stocked mini bar, amazing comfy white cotton bed. A large stunning bathroom, with two wash tubs and a Jacuzzi bath.

The wine bar has a roof terrace, which I'm sure is amazing in the summer...

The bar and restaurant were really quiet when I was there but to be fair you have the Fench concession on your doorstep.

Only downside after spending a lot of money was that they tried to charge me for a laundry bag.

Great find, great stay and would definitely recommend.
