“Great location in Shanghai next to the bund”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013 via mobile

Hôtel very clean, Nice rooms very comfortable. If you are lucky you could have a view on the financial district and the TV tower.
Excellent buffet for breakfast, wifi available in the lobby. Terrace with a view over Shanghai (unfortunately not the most interesting view). Certainly a good hôtel to stay in Shanghai.

I recently spent a week at this hotel in one of the nicer rooms. Compared to my other recent stays In Shanghai and Beijing this was poor value. The lobby has too much cigarette smoke. The restaurants are not particularly good. The room was clean but I wanted to levitate over the old carpet that was worn and dingy. If it were not connected to the convention center there would be little reason to stay. For an early riser the fitness center opens late.

Room smelled a bit like smoke every once in a while but then everyone in China smokes in buildings so that's to be expected. and it wasn't overwhelming The location cannot be beat, walking distance to the Metro, Yuyuan gardens and the Bund. I found the reception staff to speak decent English and had no difficulty in communicating. The rooms are actually pretty nice and the room has a safe and free LAN wired internet.

Room was relatively clean and reasonably sized, although very worn. There was no non-smoking floors or rooms, so there was a lot of smoke. Hotel staff was not friendly and did not speak English. Location is good - very close to the bund. I have real issue with pricing - the ad was $53, but it ended up being over $109 - big difference. When my Chinese colleague called in, the hotel reception said the lower price was only offered to attract interest, but not really available. For that reason, I would not have stayed there had the hotel not been booked for me. I'd have kicked in an extra $20 and gone to a Western hotel.

Room Tip: If noise, view and/or smoke matter to you, ask to see the room ahead of time before you commit.

This hotel is difficult to find but the entrance is just around the corner from Renmin Road in Yong'an Road. The Reception is located on the 8th floor with rooms above this. Not many reception staff speak english but we got by and they were helpful. Great location just across the road from the entrance to the Yuyang Gardens area and easy walk to the Bund. The room was spacious and quiet without any road noise or other guests. However, the beds are like rocks. The bathroom is small but adequate. A 500CNY charge to our credit card for the mini bar when we checked in. You also need to request a power plug adapter as they have different pin points.
We ate in the "International" restaurant and the service was non existent. Staff in the restaurant speak little or no english and usually ignore you unless you get their attention. Its messy and at times dirty with food on tables and the floor. Seating is wherever you like and sometimes you can lose you table if you go to the buffet breakfast together. The staff clear the plates only when you leave and they sometimes reset the tables but you have to get your own tea and coffee with limited milk available. Food was just ok and it was the same buffet breakfast every day.
The accommodation was cheap for the location and is was safe and clean. Good value for limited spend.

The hotel is located near the Old town gate entrance and the Bund river promenade as well as 10 minute walk from a subway station (line 10). So it is very easy to visit the main spot points in town. Our room was correct both in terms of space and cleanness; breakfast was rich in choices even if more Chinese oriented than western oriented. The lobby is at 8th floor and rooms from 9th to 14th.

The best thing about my stay here was the room - perfect size, clean, comfortable, and I had a view of the Bund/Pudong at night. The furniture seemed relatively new, but any "off-gassing" by cheap furniture was complete. Carpet starting to show some wear, but still OK at this point. The location is a compromise - walking distance to Yuyuan Garden and all of the restaurants and shopping there, also one end of the Bund. That's basically all that exists now for Shanghai historical sites. Front door is on a difficult-to-access street that can make cabs difficult to find, sometimes have to walk to nearest corner and flag one. If during hot summer, not an attractive option.

Staff was a slight problem - nice and work hard by old-school China standards. I'm not a stickler for dress and demeanor, but it would be nice if a few more were fluent in English. I know that raises the costs quite a bit, and the value/money is a key reason to stay here.
