“Only for Kids”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Do not bother to visit if you're older than 10. The displays are dilapidated and tardy. Most of the attractions, including the movies, are only in Mandarin.

“Huge and beautiful place, but hit and miss exhibits”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

Worth going to, but many exhibits are very rough around the edges. The large permanent exhibit about the space program is especially disappointing. There is a bit of an air of the old China in the operation of this place compared to most other major attractions in Shanghai. Kids liked the robot that can solve a rubic's cube and another that draws a painting of you with a robotic drawing arm.

“Not worth the effort!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012 via mobile

Highly disappointing - most of the interesting gadgets were out of order, everything is in Chinese (even the movies you pay extra for!) and they don't accept credit cards!
The building is very nice but, if you have the time, do have a walk along the bund or find another museum instead!

“Rather disapointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

The Shanghai science and technology museum is located in Pudong district on the east side of Huangpu river. The museum building is rather spectacular and definetely worth a visit, though only from the outside.
Sadly enough, the entrance fee is not worth it, because the museum is rather oriented at children and semed to us like some kind of playground. The so called "light of wisdom" is a subsection where different phenomenas can be tried out, very attractive for children but also very crowded. The cinemas (there are two of them) cost an extra fee and show "science" movies for children (Back to the Permian), which is why everywhere in the museum you will find people with popcorn bags. The exhibition provides hardly any real information or new knowledge to interested visitors and its reach is very limited.
If you travel with children and have to spend a very hot or rainy day somewhere indoors and don't know what to do, this is the place to go, if you are interested in science and technology, don't try it.

“Missed the museum but did shopping”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

Could not visit the museum but did the shopping in the mall attached to the metro station. Nothing big to offer but can get good bargain if you have enough patience. Nice for shopping for leather bags and accessories. Its a big place to shop. But beware of Touts.
