“Large room, tiny bathroom”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2012

The hotel is conventiently located just outside the hustle and bustle, only 5 minutes by taxi from Financial Center. Staff is friendly and upon check-in I asked for their special ladies room. Room was spacious with lots of storage space. Very comfortable, slightly outdated but still acceptable given the room rate. The bathroom however, was tiny. To take a shower one had to move to one side avoiding the toilet, close the bathroom door and step into the bath. It would have been impossible to be with 2 people at the same time in this bathroom!!
Breakfast was limited and of mediocre quality. Diner is of poor quality, not worth the money at all. There is no real bar area, but waiters from the restaurant can be called to order a drink. Restaurant closes early so they provide you with a picnic box with icecubes with drinks of your choice. Creative, but not very pleasant. Also in the nearby area there are not real alternatives, so a taxi is required to go out.
For a business hotel, it is rather poor.

I stayed in the hotel for 2 weeks staying in the Business room.
The room is good, clean and big. It has most of the amenities expected for its class. The staff is very helpful.
The breakfast is quite standard nothing to shout about. You can get tired of it after a couple of days.
The location is good if you are in for business around Pudong area. The only problem with the hotel location is that is it very hard to get a cab during morning rush hour. The staff would gladly hail a cab for you but be prepared to wait for about 5 - 10 mins. There is no problem getting a cab during other time.
If you wish to travel by metro the nearest metro stop is about 10 mins walk.
There is not much eating area within walking distance from the hotel. But most major shopping centre is a short cab ride away.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2009

Just finished my second stay at the Green Garden Hotel and while there is nothing substantial to report, I thought I would contribute a review.

Both stays have been for business, a week at a time, which would be the main reason for staying in Pudong, this particular area of Shanghai. If you are looking for somewhere to stay as a leisure tourist, I would suggest looking elsewhere purely based on location.

However as a business hotel, it's quite nice and clean, the staff are generally very nice although a bit clueless about certain things, and don't expect much interraction with them. What you need is provided and quick smart though.

Taxis are required to go almost anywhere as there is not much within walking distance, the staff at the front will eagerly hail them on your behalf.

I've stayed in a Japanese double both times which is very nice, a king-size bed in the bedroom, a Japanese-style dining room and a decent lounge and bathroom. The rooms are the best thing about the hotel.

Don't bother with room service, the food is pretty poor. However there is a great Yuzu Japanese restaurant on the ground floor which is good value.

Breakfast is included and is adequate, nothing more. Nice little gym which does the job too.

All in all, good if you need to visit Pudong on a daily basis and want somewhere where you can mind your own business and I have no complaints.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2007

I have stayed at this Hotel since 12th September in three different rooms and found it a great Hotel to stay at. I have stayed at bigger Hotels in Shanghai and found them to be too busy. This Hotel being relatively small is not so busy and maybe they have more time for you.

During some really hot days here I complained that my AirCon was not working well and within minutes they had tested it and it was found to be OK even so 30 minutes later they offered me another room which was superior to mine, it being a suite.

The breakfast is fine although the cards by the food sometimes do not relate to the food itself. It is a mix of western, they have bacon, eggs, hash browns etc.. and Chinese food, duck and orange sauce for breakfast is actually great. It is a good selection and you definetly won't go hungrey

There is a Chinese, Thai and Japanese restaurants in the Hotel although I have not tried these. They look good though.

The Hotel is no a cross road and it gets busy so the Bell boys have a job sometimes to get Taxi, if you allow enough time for this it's OK. These guys are really helpful especially when dealing with the road names in Shanghai as some taxi drivers do have problem with my pronunciation.

There is an ATM in the Hotel and I've had not problem obtaining money.

I have the Japanese Suite which has 3 rooms and a bathroom . Japanese dining area, room with a TV, sofa and a worktop area and a Queen Bedroom. All these have lots of room.

The rooms and Hotel are kept very clean, they care for this hotel very well.

The Gym room is adequate with most equipment you would want. I have only met one other person using it!

The area around the Hotel appears very safe . Although this is not near the Bund area of Pudong it is a 11Yuan Taxi ride away.
There are restaurants, hairdressers, small supermarket etc.. all on the road of the Hotel. The Hotel is also within walking distance of the Century Park, Technology Museum and the Market in the Metro ( underground station) by the Tech Museum.

I also got a very good price for my room by going directly to them.

I have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel.
