Spent 6 days in Shanghai weather was great sky was blue.
We arrived in Pudong airport and made it through customs around 9am without a hitch. Spent an hour in the airport working out how to get to the hotel. After talking to a helpful person at the metro help desk took the metro train on line 2 to Peoples Square and changed to line 8, one stop to Dashijie station, up escalator out through exit 2 turned left exiting out on Jinling road, 3rd street turning left into Yongshou road and we were there! Easy to say and do without dragging 2 heavy cases LOL.
Anyhow we checked in early around 11am and were given room 701. The room turned out to be a little low for a view so we asked to be moved to a higher floor, which was accommodated by the helpful desk staff with a move to room 1501. Both floors were supposedly non-smoking floors although unlike the earlier room 1501 it smelt like a smoking lounge. We complained to the helpful desk staff once again and housekeeping fixed the issue with a quick spray of air freshener. Well this really didn't fix the problem but luckily we were able to open the window (swing out type) which made the room bearable after half an hour or so. We did not bother to complain about the smell again which stayed with us for the duration of the stay as we did not want to loose the view if we were to be moved again.
On a brighter note during the move we inadvertently left a diamond ring on the bathroom sink. We were relieved to find out that it had been handed in, thanks to the honest cleaning staff :)
On the whole the apartment was good value for money, and positioned very well for sightseeing. If you are looking for a swanky hotel with porters and room service this place is not for you, but if you are happy to go down to the pastry shops and restaurants located in the streets below and have terrific food cooked in front of you from the street vendors this is a great hotel.
For checking emails on our smart phone, wireless internet was available in the lobby where there was a couch or two to sit on.
A laundry service was available in house or for better value in the back streets not far from the rear of the hotel; there is a laundry in a shop front. The cost of a full plastic bag of clothes washed and ironed cost 130rmb ($20 AUD).
One breakfast was included in our room charge so the breakfast manager allowed us to use our date stamped vouchers on the same day hence skipping breakfast on alternate days.
Things to do; Era acrobatics show was awesome, must go to the top observation deck of the Shanghai trade centre (bottle opener). For an unusual present go to Tanzifang.
In closing we were happy with the hotel and the location was great as it was close to the metro.
Higher the better. Some rooms smell of smoke even though they are non-smoking rooms.
