“Great place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Stayed here 6 nights during business trip to Shanghai. Payed 650rmb/night + 15% tax which is our company rate. Second time I visited Purple Mountain and again, no complaints what so ever.

Room was very big, actually I was totally suprised that it was so big as it was. Great bathroom, even better bed. Big and just the right firmnes, without beign too hard. Breakfast is also plentifull, there are western dishes as well as Asian dishes. Some variation between the days, but not too much.

They have swimming pool and gym ,but I did not had time to go there this time. Pool looked nice. And did I mention free Wifi which was working very nicely. Location is right next to Century avenue subway station, less than 5 mins walk from the hotel. Very handy to go around SHA as 4 lines cros there.

Next time I go, I will definitely go back to Purple.

2nd stay at this hotel. English speaking staff, clean and modern. new department store across the road for clothing top ups and western style coffee shops and other food choices. By taxi (out of peak) the bund is only 10 minutes, pudong airport 30kms (150rmb), Hongqiao train and airport 20 kms. Breakfast is a little overpriced. Stayed for roughly $140USD (incl breakfast) in the exec floors, for this money i think this hotel is an excellent choice for shanghai.

Several time has passed since being built this hotel.
Not modern, but it has a magnificent atmosphere.
It is very convenient to the shopping mall nearby.

At breakfast, I drunk Hong Kong-style soup.
It is one of the top level of the soup I drank in China.
In order to drink it , I want to stay again.

Stayed 1 night in Purple mountain. Convenient place to stay as there is a mall right across the hotel with lots of restaurants. Room wise, a little small and lighting is a little too dim. toilet looks old and small. There is no separate shower area from the bath tub.

Stayed in the 41st floor at Purple Mountain 17th - 23rd April. This was my second visit, first time round (2010) was very very good, they have improved since them to excellent. All down to the staff; there are more people that speak English well, and the service quality from the room, to the water to the food... has all just upped its game a little. John Lui and his conceirge staff are simply wonderful. Make sure your stay includes access to the Premium club lounge on the 26th floor, costs more but worth every penny, as they serve breakfast snacks during the day, happy hour drinks.... very very good! Thanks for a great visit to Shanghai.

We stayed here for 9 days in Feb. on the 41 Floor.
The room wa bright, modern and stylish.
The "Open" bathroom had one wall with a curtain, that could be pulled back when needed.
Our room faced Century Plaza, and even had a window that opened, strange but nice to let in some "fresh" air.
The breakfast was served in the main dinning room or on the executive club floor, higher up.
The executive floor is quieter for breakfast and has a better view, we still went to the main dinning room most of the time, because to the wider selection for breakfast.
The rooms have free internet with a cable, and our room was to have free Wifi, but we only seemed to get that every so offen.
The hotel staff was friendly and helped out every wish, even with free umbrellas on the rainy days.
A nice hotel well situated downtown, and on a subway line.
