Description: PATA NEGRA reflects the soul of Spain. Inspired by the art, music, wine & food culture of Andalucia, to the acorn rich forests of Extremadura. This is the home of the JOSELITO Jamon Iberico! This cozy Shanghai newcomer showcases a rustic warm atmosphere with subtle edgy street art on exposed brickwork. The subdued lighting furthermore accentuates the original features of this old Shanghai heritage house. The entire space has been furnished with bespoke leather sofas & chairs. All tables are unique and were handmade onsite using only recycled wood. Tapas & pizzas are served until late! Classics like Albondigas, croquettas & calamaris can be enjoyed along with a rotating menu of tapas, displayed on the chalkboards above the tapas bar.PATA NEGRA has selected wines that will please every palate, with of course a larger emphasis on Spanish wine, so that we can feature all the incredible & iconic wines that originate from the vast majority of her famous historical wine regions.

“My (our) favourite place to eat in Shanghai, Pata Negra”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

We have been there so many times (at least 10 ttimes in last 6 months) I felt I had to be first to list it on TA and review it. It used to be 'Velvet Lounge' and has retained that great brick pizza oven at the back of the restaurant. It's changed a lot though, it's rustic but contemporary with brick inside walls adorned with art painted on to it. There are several areas to cater for non smokers and smokers, lovers, families and party people, without being on top of each other. Our kids love it too, ESP for the awesome pizza.
However the small but great tapas menu is excellently topped with the finest Joselito ham from the Patanegra pig of Spain (leg of the black pig). Served simply shaved with tomato relish and bread, it melts in the mouth. It's not cheap but worth it and there is a less expensive shoulder version which is also very, very good. Feeling really flash? Have it on a brick oven pizza and be prepared for pizza heaven. The staff are great here, well coordinated by the manager Boby. They are attentive responsive and friendly.
It's very close to the Hilton Hotel near Ya'an road (5 mins walk). It's on Julu Lu, near Changshu Lu and in the same building as Casanova (Guanxi can get you Chinese address if you put in Casanova).
