With great food, bar selection and wine list, L'Alcove is terrific addition to the western food scene in Shanghai, but what separates this restaurant from the other French food offerings in Shanghai is it's charming, endearing staff, focussed unpretentiously on giving you a fun night.
The restaurant unofficially opened around Spring Festival 2013. You can expect a good food selection -- the mushroom soup is to die for. The sauces are rich as they should be. The portions are large. The wines affordable with a good range.
The (handsome and smiling) bartender is the friendliest in the area. The music is quintessentially French for dinner, suitably raising tempo after dinner to accomodate the bar.
They also offer a small panty/grocery shop of French products. They now accept Chinese credit/debits cards. The French owner speaks fluent English and some Chinese, and he tell me they are working on improving interior design.
A great addition to the western food choices.
