We were so glad to give Mercato a shot while in Shanghai. We wanted the best pizza in town and read about Mercato in Time-Out Shanghai. I was a bit skeptical because the article made it out to be super fancy and expensive. I'm really glad we went there and decided for ourselves because the pizza was amazing and not any more than we'd pay for the average pie back home!!
We tried the ricotta appetizer too which was delicious! We also had a yummy salad and the tiramisu was perfect to end our meal. The ambience was very nice and the waiter service was also very good. The only point they lost in our book was the weird look the host and hostess gave my husband and I when we arrived at the door. Granted, we did not have a reservation, and we also were schlepping around looking a bit scruffy (think backpacker look), but the place was not full with customers and at the end of the day it shouldn't matter how well dressed you are if you can afford to pay. It's not like Mercato is black-tie only exactly. It's just a pizza place with a Michelin star chef :)
Anyhow, luckily they did give us a table and we were able to enjoy a nice meal. Nice views of the Bund as well.
